The Acela does this, but the tilt is so restricted (by Federal requirements for minimum clearance between trains passing in opposite directions) that it's ineffective. It's technology we've chosen to engineer and pay for--but not to implement properly for maximum benefit. zipman
That recent article on high speed in the NE corridor suggested Amtrak made the Acela trains to wide and potentially dangerous. If the tilt breaks on a train and two pass each other in the opposite direction, they would collide. skinnyrattler
I know I rarely consider trains becuase it still is $100+ for a longer ride and some hassle. I would do the ride to Boston more often if they could get me there in 3-4 hours with a cheaper ticket. As it stands, car is the best way if you're willing to endure the time. Which I never really feel like. I'm sure the same could be said of LA-San Fran, Atlanta to Orlando to Miami, Chicago-Ohio-Pittsburg. skinnyrattler
