Stand and protect

Gallery: Stand and protect

Here comes another protective case for cellphones. Yawn, right? Not from me. The new Every1 Series case from Ballistic is my hands-down favorite because Ballistic got pretty much everything right on ruggedness without making the case a bulky brick. And, be still my heart, there's a kickstand built into the base that works in both portrait and landscape modes. Rest the phone, face up, in the rubber-reinforced base, which has cutouts for the rear camera and speaker holes, and flip-open rubber covers for the mute switch and headphone and charging ports. Responsive rubber casings shield the volume controls and on/off button. The front cover, which has a nice responsive built-in screen protector, then snaps on, snugly but easily. The cover has little rubber latches at the four corners that lock into matching holes on the case's base. There's a cutout for the front camera and a rubber casing protecting the monitor push-button. You also get a snap-on holster, but I never use it. While shock-resistant, the Every1 series isn't waterproof. Comes in a palette of muted or bright colors. Currently available for several iPhone, Samsung, and Nokia models, with more on the way. Other cases for other phones are available, but I like this design combo best.

Ballistic Every1 Series Case is $49.99 at www.goballisticcase.com.
