Vacationing close to home: Your favorite places

Send us your submissions

With gas prices soaring and savings accounts shrinking, you might be looking to stay close to home this summer.

Tell us your favorite vacation spot within 300 miles of Billy Penn’s statue, and we’ll share the Top 10 destinations with our readers.

It could be a beach, a mountain lake, an amusement park, a campsite or a spa. It just has to be a place worth spending at least a weekend, and it must be outside our eight-county area (Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Camden, Gloucester and Burlington).

Keep it to 25 words or less, include your name, town, phone number and e-mail address, and send it to Bill Reed, Travel Editor, 400 N. Broad St., Phila., Pa. 19130, or e-mail it to inquirer.travel@phillynews.com. Please, one submission per person.

I’ll pick the Top 10 spots and print them in the May 25 Travel section. And we’ll pay the 10 winners $50 each – hopefully enough for a tank of gas.

REHOBOTH BEACH DELAWARE HAS IT ALL TAX FREE SHOPPING, BOARDWALKS, AMUSEMENT PARKS AND NO FEE BEACHES AND GREAT RESTAURANTS AND ONLY 2 HRS FROM PHILLY

Wildwood, NJ, the boardwalk, free beaches, plenty of memories and its only 80 miles away. As Bobby Rydell would say, Oh those Wildwood days!!!

Centre County Pennsylvania. Little city, State College, smack dab in beautiful farm country, only minutes from mountain solitude. Bring your camera and your anticipation.

Ocean City, New Jersey! The best family vacation spot in the country. Mornings riding the bike on the Boardwalk, day at the beach, eavening on the rides and then sip wine on the porch of the house you rented when the kids are asleep.

Long Beach, NY. Pristine beaches. Lobster shacks/clam bars. Great boardwalk. Only two and change from Philly. Better pizza and crowds than the Jersey shore.

For a quick trip, we love the Finger Lakes in Upstate NY. Great scenery, lovely inns and hotels, wonderful fishing and great wine and food. A must see if you haven't

Lock Haven, PA (b/t Williamsport and State College). Kayaking, Jet Skiing, Hiking, Camping, Fishing..decent Labor Day Festivities as well.

Two men aboard a small plane were killed this afternoon in a crash near Northeast Philadelphia Airport, authorities said. The two-seater aircraft slammed into the parking lot of a trucking company on the 2700 block of Red Lion Road and then skidded into a tractor trailer, police said.
