Age: 35.

AKA: Dr. Chuck

Background: Worked his way out of poverty to earn his doctorate in educational psychology; has a dual master's degree in counseling and organizational dynamics.

Day job: Assistant clinical professor at Drexel University; director of the Center for the Prevention of School-Aged Violence.

Night job: Co-host of the "Grimaldi & Williams" show on The Big Talker (1210-AM).

Neighborhood: University City.

He's got swagger: "I'm not uncomfortable being me. I'm not breaking my neck to fit in. I like standing out. A lot of people find that attractive."

On looks: "I am interesting, but I don't know about good-looking. I'm a professor. I don't know if professors are sexy. But Henry Kissinger once said power is a natural aphrodisiac. Maybe that's sexy for some people."

Accomplishments: Created the "Books not Guns" children's literacy campaign; former coordinator and spokesperson for Philly's Operation Ceasefire; a founder of entertainer Bill Cosby's "Academic Posse"; recipient of numerous citations for community work.

What he believes: "The way you start does not have to be the way you finish."

About the other sex: "I do think there's this natural attraction for women to the bad boy and that may leave some of us scratching our heads."

On race: "\[W.E.B.\] DuBois said there can be no perfect democracy curtailed by color, race or poverty, but with all we accept all. Even peace. That's something I learned 10 years ago. I love that quote."

Three-legged stool: I'll always teach at a university. I will always be involved in political activism, and I'll always be involved in the media. To me, it's all connected. It's moving the agenda forward."

Bachelor days: "I enjoy being single. I really have fun, for the most part. The one thing that's tugging at me is I really want to have kids. It's really getting strong. What's the point of creating all this if I can't leave it to someone?"

Gotta read: "I'm really embarrassed at the number of people who just aren't informed about basic social or political issues. How can you be over 30 and know more about Beyoncé than Sonia Sotomayor? In my book, that's a problem."

Happy birthday! Celebrate with him Aug. 14 at Club Adesso, 1519 Walnut St., 10 p.m. Proceeds benefit the National Adoption Center and the Center for the Prevention of School-Aged Violence.
