The Wings’ losing streak climbed to three Friday after a 20-11 loss to the Minnesota Swarm at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Minn.

It was a game of ups and downs for the Wings (5-6). They started on a down note, falling behind, 3-1, after the first quarter.

The only goal scorer in the first period for the Wings was Kevin Crowley, who scored the first of his three goals on the night with the assist from Brodie Merrill and Pat Helm.

The Wings picked it up in the second, however, outscoring the Swarm (5-7), 4-2, and managing to tie the game up at 5 heading into halftime. Crowley scored again and was joined in the score column by Brendan Mundorf, Drew Westervelt and Jeff Reynolds.

The third quarter belonged solely to the Swarm as they bombarded the Wings’ net with six goals in the period to Philadelphia’s two, to make the score 11-7 after three.

The Swarm ended the competitive phase of the game with three consecutive goals all within the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to stretch their lead to 14-7.

But the scoring was just beginning for Minnesota as it scored nine goals in total during the fourth quarter and put a firm stamp on a much-needed victory.

The Wings do not have much time to get over the loss as they continue onto the second game of their three-game road trip to play the well-rested Colorado Mammoth (4-8) at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.

The Mammoth have not played since March 23 and will catch the Wings in the middle of their longest road trip of the season.
