Wings star Iannucci named NLL MVP

After a record-setting campaign, it was no surprise that the National Lacrosse League announced Wings forward Athan Iannucci as its 2008 Reebok Most Valuable Player yesterday.

In just his second season, Iannucci asserted himself as the league's top offensive force, surpassing Wings great Gary Gait as the single-season goal-scoring leader, ending the year with 71 goals (and 100 points).

Iannucci also collected 138 loose balls, added 29 assists and netted five game-winners, yet another league high.

Iannucci also joined five others on the NLL's All-Pro first team, while teammate Geoff Snider secured second-team honors. Snider decimated the league's loose-ball record (244) and had the best faceoff percentage in the league, winning 318 of 431.

West Chester in final

West Chester got its revenge yesterday, defeating Limestone, 17-9, in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II women's tournament. Limestone was responsible for the Golden Rams' only loss of the season.

West Chester (19-1) will play C.W. Post in tomorrow's national championship game at Memorial Park in Houston.
