Put off by all this Wing Bowl promotion you see on our site?

Think it's a little gross to be glorifying over-eating at a time when Philadelphia food banks are scavenging for food?

Creeped out by a radio personality's nudge-nudge interviews of sexed-up Wingette wannabees?

I thought not.

But if you are, check out this video made by Scott Colan and sent around by Brendan Skwire.

Skwire last made trouble asking whether the Eagles owed it to the city to bail out the libraries.

He titles his post with the light-hearted "While Millions Starve, Philadelphia Wallows in Gluttony."

It's absolutely disgusting and I hope they all get violently ill. Please someone make that happen. That's a chicken for every four wings, every two if they don't allow drumsticks. Good ole America. A lot of people could use that food around the globe. I'm sure there will be 500 big pickups or suv's parked out front. Tread lightly fatties.

There are such things as attractive wingettes, but evidently not on this blog.

this is a celebration of white trash. It is embarassing, but this is the way we are headed. Idiocracy. This is the reason someone like Obama got elected. Keep reaching for the stars, America.

Cataldi's act is awful. He is lazy, boring, and unimaginative. That being said the wing bowl is fun. Don't hate on a silly fun event.

This is an event Philly should be embarrassed about, not proud of. When starving people around the world see these kinds of things in America, it doesn't exactly shine our image.

Maybe next year every person who attends the wing bowl can donate a canned good to the Food bank. They can have bins set up at the door. It's not too late to do that this year! Everything is so serious anymore, let them have thier fun at the wing bowl.

there is no option to post on the article I just read so I'll do it here. it is sad that the wing bowl gets so much coverage here and an event like elections across Iraq gets approx. 6 lines. Good job and keep up the good work reporters. It it good to see where your priorities are!

I don't understand how we can have a wing bowl when poor Ed Snider is worried about the recession and how it will hit him in the wallet!

Lets go thru this guy's life and see if he waste any food and make a video about how he is stealing food from starving kids. Just saying.

The problem is not what happens inside the Wachovia, but what happens the night before and carries over to the parking lot before the event. With so many underage frat boys pounding beers all night it's only a matter of time before there's a Wing Bowl related tragedy. I guess that's what it will take to end the nonsense.

actually, scott colan made the video. you oughta credit him too.

Those of you who are posting probably have never been to the Wing Bowl before. It's a day for a guy to be a guy! Period! For those who are starving- get a JOB!!

Everyone hating on it are all hypocrits, what about Nathan's hot dog eating contests? don't go all green because you're turned off by this idea to celebrate a type of "super bowl" that the eagles have only been in twice. It's supposed to be a fun event to get people together, regardless if they're drunk and act idiotic. The people posting on here complaining about wasting food, look in the mirror morons! How much electricity, water, and food do you waste? it's once a year relax! and the wings are merely nothing, you know how much chicken Perdue goes through to make those packages of chicken breasts, what do you think they do with the wings? Get a clue! Relax and go green yourself...

And another thing, this year the money they raise is going to the police departments, it can't all be bad. And the people complaining about underage drinking, isn't that what happens at all the sporting events? regardless it's going to happen, it's about responsibility, don't make it all on the wing bowl for a few idiots that drink and drive. Once again blame it on someone/something else rather than the person drinking and getting behind the wheel. Thats why there's such a problem, no accountability for oneself.

get your information right b.atkinson, do a little research, the wing bowl started as a non profit ordeal, now it's charging a $5 cover for the police departments to help the families cope with their losses... moron. And No I personally have never been to a Wing Bowl, but i've been outside my house, and realize that people will drink and a select few will be wreckless, whether you're in Boston, NY, RI, Chicago, NJ, Philly, it doesn't matter, it happens... it's about a persons self responsibility.... once again don't blame the event, blame the people that attend it... get a clue, leave your house once a while... you might learn a little bit

I love the comments about the food being needed for the needy. I hope all of you are donating every last piece of food you don't need to the needy. Otherwise, you are quite the hypocrite. You don't need to be a socialist to be humane.

JGeorge59, will you listen to yourself? you are defending gluttony! One of the 7 deadly sins! it is very nice that the $5. cover is going to our beloved fallen officers, but there surely is a better way to pay tribute than this celebration of excess. In these troubled financial times, any ostentatious displays of wealth and overindulgence are the height of vulgarity! I welcome any and all debate.

b.atkinson- You soil these pages daily with your party line, Limbaugh-parroting, uber-cliched nonsense. But yet it entertains me to see your anger at a situation entirely brought on by blind loyalty and myopic confidence during the last eight years of slow-to-fast decline. But now you soil the Wing Bowl? Please step down from your moral high horse. Although I appreciate your concern for an increase in DWIs, your outrage at the decadence and frankly people having fun, is soooooo puritanical, especially during these tough times. Please refocus your rage on Democrats- it is far more amusing.

Sorry b. I'll be at work tomorrow. I agreed with you on the DWI front, my response was based on your puritanical and elitist rant. Not surprised you came back at me with the DWI argument- (although I conceded that already) Did you read your original rant? It seemed to be a screed on fat people, "dorks", lemmings, and "Philadelphia, the single dumbest city in America." And you're worried about my "political hate". You sound like a really fun person to be around.

I see the fun police are out in force. I've never been to Wing Bowl because I work for a living. But I really don't care what 18,000 other people from the Philadelphia area do with their Friday mornings. If they want to take the day off and watch a bunch of scantily-clad chicks cheer for fat guys eating wings, who cares? Typical liberals want to tell other people how to spend their time and money. Also, for those so concerned about the homeless and their food intake, why not have an all-homeless eating crew next year. They may break new records. It's amazing how many people have no sense of humor.

Just because they take the wings off the chicken doesn't mean that the rest of it gets thrown out. You Get over yourselves and have some fun.

Cataldi didn't start Wing Bowl, Al Morganti did. I can't believe some one posted about "gluttony" and the "seven deadly sins". I went last year and had a blast, so much, that I am going again this year. B.atkinson is just mad that his mother didnt spend the $50 on his abortion. Your the guy that brings everyone down. Pull your di$k out behind your legs and have some fun, you might enjoy life.

A white trash festival. If Angelo says, "Look at her" one more time (it's the radio, dude) I'm gonna throw something. For me, it has nothing to do with food banks or the present state of the economy, whatever that is. It has everything to do with nonsense and celebrating 400-pound men eating for entertainment. When one vomits, it's a party. It's pretty much everything that is wrong with society and what passes for entertainment. Your colleague, Mr. Fitzpatrick once called it a "rodeo for the repulsive" and a "bacchanal for bozos." Mostly, we have Howard Stern to thank for at least some of it. Who else figured that bikini-clad women make good radio? Nobody ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American public, and it isn't about to stop anytime soon.

And it no doubt drew big ratings for WIP and tons of page hits for philly.com, so we're spitting into the wind.
