Chestnut is odds-on favorite to win Wing Bowl

Joey Chestnut, winner of the event two years running, was listed as a 2-1 favorite to win his showdown with Bill “El Wingador” Simmons, a five-time Wing Bowl champion who last competed in the 2005 competition.

Joey Chestnut, the competitive eater from San Jose, Calif., was named the odds-on favorite to win this year’s Wing Bowl.

Chestnut, the winner of the event two years running, was listed as a 2-1 favorite to win his showdown with Bill “El Wingador” Simmons, the South Jersey resident and five-time Wing Bowl champion who last competed in the 2005 competition, which he won.

At 3-1 odds, Simmons was listed as the most likely contestant to challenge Chestnut at Friday morning’s event at the Wachovia Center, the 16th year the chicken wing-eating spectacle has been put on by WIP Radio (610 AM). About 20,000 spectators are expected to watch the event.

Rounding out the rest of the top five favorites were Patrick Bertoletti (10-1), Big Brian (10-1) and U.S. Male (12-1).
