Q: I just spent several days watching a bunch of college football games that generate millions of dollars for a whole lot of people - except the people who actually produce the product, the players. Do you think college athletes should get paid?
- A College Man in Havertown
A: Dude, I can spend hours talking about this topic.
College sports are a big business. Big business is all about money. And money is usually about the haves and the have-nots.
College athletes have not been fairly compensated, in my opinion.
A full scholarship with room and board is great, but once schools start dancing around the NCAA rules and bringing in money from boosters and no-show jobs and things like that, that's when it gets out of hand.
The rules need to be rewritten.
Q: Charles, what's your opinion on New Year's resolutions?
- Resolved in Lower Merion
A: This year I resolved to not make any New Year resolutions.
Seriously, I'm not a big believer in that stuff. There shouldn't be one day or one period of time when you resolve to be a better person.
That should be on your mind 365 days a year - 366 days when it's a leap year like 2012.
