The Phillies have told Larry Bowa they want him to remain with the organization, according to a source close to the situation. Bowa, 71, just completed his 33rd season with the team, serving as Pete Mackanin's bench coach. He has been the team's bench coach for the last four seasons after being hired by former manager Ryne Sandberg following the 2013 season.

Mackanin was told Thursday that he would not return next season as the team's manager and his coaching staff was told Friday that the team's next manager will be given a chance to name his own coaching staff. Mackanin's coaches were told by general manager Matt Klentak that they were free to look for jobs with other organizations while the Phillies search for their next manager.

The source who said the Phillies want Bowa to remain with the organization said that it's possible the five-time all-star and former team manager would perform an instructional role at multiple minor-league levels. Bowa said he has a meeting scheduled with the team for later this week, but declined to speculate on what his role might be in the future. Bowa told reporters Friday that he wanted to remain with the Phillies in some capacity.
