The Soul traded fullback Derrick Ross to the Los Angeles KISS on Friday for linebacker Beau Bell.
Ross was with the Soul roster for the last three seasons. The three-time First-Team, All-Arena fullback led the league in rushing yards in all three seasons with the Soul, recording 487 yards and 36 touchdowns in the 2014 season.
Ross is the AFL's all-time leader in career rushing touchdowns with 142.
“We needed to get stronger on the defensive side of the ball and Beau became available – we couldn’t pass it up,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel.
Before arriving in Los Angeles with the KISS, Bell spent three seasons with the Spokane Shock. Bell has also spent time with the Cleveland Browns.
“You have to give up talent to get talent, but the previous addition of Tommy Taggart at fullback allowed us to make this move, which we felt was needed to improve us overall," Dolezel said. "We are excited to have Beau’s positive presence on and off the field and know that he will quickly become a fan favorite.”
In a recent Arena Football League players’ poll conducted by the League Office, Bell was selected as the No. 4 top player in the league.
The Soul’s season gets started Sunday, March 29 as the team travels to Orlando to take on the Predators.
