Philadelphia Soul trim roster to 28 players

The Philadelphia Soul made its first round of cuts Saturday, which brought its training camp roster down to the league-required 28 players.

Among the cuts were offensive lineman Lemone Buford, wide receiver Damion Clark, offensive lineman Brandon Grier, defensive back Jacobi Jenkins, fullback Jeff Link and defensive lineman Justin Young.

“Making cuts is always the toughest part of the job,” Soul head coach Clint Dolezel said in a team press release. “When they are tough decisions to make — like the ones today — it means our staff did a good job this past offseason of bringing in talent. This will continue to be a very competitive camp and we are excited with the way our roster is shaping up.”

The Soul has one more round of cuts before the end of camp, as the team is required to cut down to 24 players by March 8. The team opens the season March 15 against the defending ArenaBowl champion Arizona Rattlers.
