Philly Soul AFL game at Tampa Bay pushed back

Because of a conflict with the NHL playoffs, the Soul-Sharks game will be Saturday, May 23.

THE SOUL'S game next Friday at Tampa Bay has been pushed back a day because of an NHL playoff game.

The NHL Lightning share the Amalie Arena with the Tampa Bay Storm and the hockey league has scheduled Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals for next Friday.

It means an extra off day for the Soul, which are busing to Tampa following tomorrow night's game at Jacksonville. Lightning ownership, which also owns the Storm, will pick up an approximate $15,000 tab for the Soul having to change flights and stay another night in a hotel.

Earlier this season, the Soul had a game at New Orleans moved by an NBA playoff game. Philadelphia beat the VooDoo, 55-42.

This is a choppy three weeks for the Soul. Following this two-week Florida trip, the Soul will host Las Vegas on May 30 in Atlantic City.

About the Soul: Are off to the hottest start in franchise history since the 2008 team opened 9-0 . . . Wide receiver Xavier Boyce will miss a month with a broken right hand. Harvey Binfold will take his spot in the lineup. The absence of Boyce (6-4, 220) will be felt most in the red zone . . . Linebacker/pass-rush specialist Beau Bell returns after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.

About the Sharks: Coach Les Moss will not be on the field after sustaining third-degree burns on his feet while standing on scorching concrete. Moss had a previous neck injury that limits the feeling in his extremities. Yikes. He will direct things from a booth in the arena . . . Jacksonville is one of the most disappointing teams in the AFL this year. The Sharks won at Cleveland (4-3) on May 9, a week after getting hammered by Tampa Bay, 63-28 . . . Former Soul running back Derrick Ross leads the league in rushing touchdowns with 13.

Did you know? The Soul are 3-0 all-time against Jacksonville, including a Week 3 win in Philadelphia, 63-52.
