Soul to hold outdoor practice on Market St.

The Soul is returning to Market Street in hopes of drumming up interest in its scuffling team.

The Daily News has learned that the team will hold a one-hour outdoor practice on Market Street between 16th and 17th next Thursday, May 5 starting at noon. The team will import the inflatable walls it uses at its regular practice facility in Voorhees, N.J. Team officials won't comment until details have been finalized, which could be as early as today.

The east side of Market Street served as the team's parade route following its 2008 ArenaBowl championship. The Soul is off to a 1-5 start and will visit Iowa on Saturday before returning to Philadelphia to finally play some home games.

Mental mistakes at every position have killed the Soul late in games and four of its losses have been by a total of 20 points. The 18-game schedule gives the team some extra time to turn things around, as does the fact that the Soul is just 2 1/2 games behind East Division leading Cleveland.

"We talked about that today," coach Mike Hohensee said after practice. "Nobody is running away with our division. We probably don't need to go 13-5 to win it."

After the trip to Des Moines, the Soul play four of their next five games at the Wells Fargo Center.
