AFL to review Soul's final play in playoff win over New York

It appears that the Soul won't earn that Saturday night win over New York without a bit of a fight.

Yesterday, sources close to the Soul said the Dragons requested an inquiry by the Arena Football League into the final play that sent them packing - a 28-yard touchdown catch by Larry Brackins with 1.7 seconds remaining.

Brackins barely crossed the goal line and the play was reviewed by the officials, who allowed the touchdown to stand. The Soul won, 49-48.

Dragons officials could not be reached for comment.

Chris McCloskey, the AFL's executive vice president of communications, told the Daily News yesterday, "While the Dragons have not filed any official protest, the league has been extensively reviewing the play and will make an official statement," regarding the call and whatever evidence - if any - the replay showed if the original ruling is negated.

The league's official announcement will be posted today on the AFL's Web site. For developments, visit www.arenafootball.com. *

Politicians are supposed to watch what they say. But at yesterday's Nat'l Governors Conference, Ed Rendell made some blunt, maybe even sexist, remarks about Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano that were picked up by a nearby microphone.
