AC Milan fire Max Allegri
A 4-3 loss to relegation-threatened Sassuolo proved to be the tipping point for Max Allegri, with AC Milan announcing on Monday morning that the manager has been fired.
It's been a long time coming, but Domenico Berardi has succeeded where all others have failed: AC Milan have sacked Massimiliano Allegri. The club has made an official announcement that the manager has been sacked with immediate effect, with reports suggesting that assistant manager Mauro Tassotti will take temporary charge of the squad.
That success proved difficult to sustain. Last season, Milan were sitting seventh at the midway point. But the club took a chance on Mario Balotelli, and with the temperamental striker on board, managed to finish third on the final day of the season.
This season has proved even worse for the rossoneri. Balotelli has been missing with injury - or suspension. Stephan El Shaarawy is a non-entity; the defense is a shambles. Bringing back Kakà has not rescued the side. They currently sit in 11th, an astonishing 30 points out of first place, and just six above the drop.
But it was the 4-3 loss to Sassuolo on Sunday night that proved to be the final straw. Allegri is out, and now Milan must determine whether it was really the management that was the problem.
