Report: 76ers owner Josh Harris to buy English soccer team Crystal Palace

After buying the New Jersey Devils last year, it now looks like 76ers owner Joshua Harris is about to expand his portfolio across the Atlantic Ocean.

After buying the New Jersey Devils last year, it now looks like 76ers owner Joshua Harris is about to expand his portfolio across the Atlantic Ocean.

Harris, according to English newspaper The Guardian, is on the verge of buying London-based English Premier League soccer team Crystal Palace for approximately $113 million:

Takeover talks between Crystal Palace and the American businessman Josh Harris are at such an advanced stage that the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers owner is poised to enter a period of due diligence on the club.

A deal between the Premier League side and Harris, the co-founder of Apollo Global Management, is understood to be 90% agreed in principle and worth around £70m. Steve Parish, the current co-chairman, is expected to stay on in his current capacity and run the club on a day-to-day basis.

The story notes that Harris held negotiations during Palace's summer tour of the United States, which included a 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Union on July 25.

Rumors of a potential deal were first reported on Friday by Bloomberg. The Guardian asserted Friday that the club's current ownership would likely be reluctant to sell, but it now seems that a deal is likely to be concluded.

If Harris' attempt to buy Palace suceeds, the club will become the sixth in England's top flight with an American majority owner. The others are Arsenal, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Liverpool and Sunderland.
