THE WEEK IN SOCCER

Manchester United at Arsenal

12:30 p.m. Saturday (NBC10)

Once they were English Premier League powers, but now Manchester United and Arsenal are just two teams trying to escape the middle of the standings. The Red Devils bring England captain Wayne Rooney and Argentine star Angel Di Maria (doubtful after getting a kick to the ankle from Portugal's Nani in a friendly on Tuesday). The Gunners counter with the rampant Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez and the productive England striker Danny Welbeck (battling a hamstring injury).

New England Revolution at New York Red Bulls

1:30 p.m. Sunday (NBC10)

The conference finals in Major League Soccer playoffs are shaping up as the best in the league's 19-year history. The spotlight shines first on Red Bull Arena, where New York's Thierry Henry and 27-goal scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips face New England's U.S. national team tandem of Jermaine Jones and MVP candidate Lee Nguyen.

Seattle Sounders at Los Angeles Galaxy

5 p.m. Sunday (ESPN, ESPN Deportes)

Is Landon Donovan really retiring at the end of the season? You wouldn't know if you watched his dominant performance in the Galaxy's conference semifinal rout of Real Salt Lake: three goals and an assist in the decisive second leg. Now Donovan and company face their biggest test: a stacked Seattle team led by the impossible-to-stop strike partnership of Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins.

Bayern Munich at Manchester City

2:30 p.m. Tuesday (Fox Sports 1)

Manchester City tries to hang on to its slim chances in the UEFA Champions League group stage against a superpowered Bayern Munich squad featuring Mario Götze, Thomas Müller, and Arjen Robben. And even if resurgent striker Sergio "Kun" Agüero can lead the Citizens to an upset, it still might take an unlikely draw between AS Roma and CSKA Moscow to keep hope alive.

Juventus at Malmö

2:30 p.m. Wednesday (ESPN3.com)

If Markus Rosenberg and Malmö, the two-time reigning Swedish champs, can get a tie with Carlos Tevez, Paul Pogba, and Juventus, then a draw between Olympiakos and Atletico Madrid would knock the Italian giants out of the Champions League group stage. It's not such a stretch, as Juve hasn't won on the road in Europe this season.
