Union midfielder Maurice Edu was among 22 players selected Wednesday to the U.S. national team for its April 2 exhibition game against Mexico in Glendale, Ariz.

Edu will depart for international duty Sunday after the Union's game against Montreal and return after the match with Mexico.

"I'm very happy to be called back in to camp," Edu said. "For different reasons, it has been a little while since I've been with the team. I'm excited to meet up with the group again and get back to wearing my country's colors."

Edu, 27, already has an extensive resumé as a national team member, having played in more than 40 matches since 2007.

Captain Clint Dempsey and all-time U.S. scoring leader Landon Donovan were among the other players selected.

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann chose 19 players from Major League Soccer, including Dempsey, a Seattle forward, and Donovan a Los Angeles midfielder.

Top goalkeeper Tim Howard, who plays for Everton in the Premier League, will not be available.
