Sebastien Le Toux goal wasted in Union opener

THE UNION dropped its season opener, 3-1, to Sporting Kansas City on Saturday at PPL Park.

Forward Sebastien Le Toux put the Union ahead in the 17th minute. Le Toux, who returned to the Union in the offseason, is the team's all-time leading goal scorer.

"I'm glad he scored a goal in his first game back, but the fact is that this is a team sport and, from our perspective, it's unacceptable to play at PPL Park and lose the way that we did," Union manager John Hackworth said.

Le Toux said: "It is good for my confidence as a forward, for the past year now I've played a lot on the side and I know I can do it, but I prefer to play forward, so scoring this goal was huge for me but I am just disappointed in the result, so I am not really thinking about my goal today."

Sporting KC City scored the next three goals, despite the Union carrying most of the play.

"If we executed on the chances that we had, we walk into halftime up two, maybe three goals and unfortunately that didn't happen," Hackworth said. "Then it's a matter of us managing the game, reading critical moments and execution and on the flip side, that's what Sporting KC did tonight."

The Union's next game is at 6 p.m. Saturday against the Colorado Rapids. The game will be on The Comcast Network.
