No Union decision yet on Adu

WILL FREDDY ADU return to the Union next season?

That was the big question after Adu failed to dress for the Union's season-ending 3-0 loss to the New York Red Bull at PPL Park on Saturday.

It was the second straight game that Adu didn't dress, sparking rumors that the 23-year-old would not be back.

However, Union manager John Hackworth said no decision on Adu's future had been made.

"We had a good talk and agreed we just need to have a little bit of separation from the year and all of the emotions and things like that," Hackworth said after the loss. "Then we'll make some decisions going forward that are good for both of us.

"Me and Freddy have a long history and, despite what people think, we're pretty close. I want what's best for Freddy. I expect a lot out of him. He expects a lot out of himself. We'll have a heart to heart talk and see what's best for both of us."

Adu, who has a guaranteed contract through 2013, struggled with injures this season and finished with just five goals and one assist, playing in 24 of the 34 games.

The Union finished its season at 10-18-6 with 36 goals.
