Union's Nowak suspended for one game

MLS IS EXPECTED to announce Tuesday or Wednesday that Union manager Peter Nowak must serve a one-game suspension after he left the manager's box and entered the field of play in Saturday's 1-0 win over Chivas USA.

MLS disciplinary guidelines state that any coach who gets ejected must serve a "one-game suspension in the club's next match in the corresponding competition."

Nowak is expected to miss Saturday's game against San Jose (7 p.m., Comcast SportsNet).

Additionally, Nowak must watch the match from suite level and will not be able to speak to the team before and during the game including halftime, and cannot talk to players or coaches during the game.

Still unsure are what, if any, additional penalties MLS will hand down to Nowak. MLS rules state, "The Committee may add suspensions and/or fines if the coach's actions are deemed egregious."

Nowak entered the field of play after defender Gabriel Farfan made a studs-up tackle on Chivas' James Riley. A benches-clearing scuffle ensued, and Nowak was on the field during the proceedings.

Also Saturday, midfielder Keon Daniel and Farfan picked up one-game suspensions after red-card ejections.

The Union improved to 2-3-1 with the win.

Attempts to reach Nowak for comment were unsuccessful, but after the match, he said: "You don't want to see this kind of [rough] stuff, and Chivas was trying to pull every single trick out of their sleeve to make us suffer."
