"Vero" has done it again.

Veronica "Vero" Boquete scored the winning goal for the Independence Sunday night in a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Beat at Widener University.

The goal, witnessed by 4,162 fans - the largest crowd of the season - was the third game-winner in as many matches for the Spanish forward, whose speed and powerful shot are being felt around the league.

The win boosted the Independence's record to 10-3-3 and put them in sole possession of the top spot in the Women's Professional Soccer League standings.

Taking a pass from Amy Rodriguez while in full stride, Boquete blasted a shot past keeper Allison Whitworth from about 30 yards out in the 62d minute of play.

"I'm very happy for me and for the team," Boquete said about her three game winners through interpreter Laura DelRio, a forward on the team.

The first half against the Beat Sunday ended in a 0-0 tie as Indy lacked possession, rhythm and tempo.

All of that changed in the second half.
