A goal by Vero Boquete helped the Independence extend their Women's Professional Soccer winning streak to six games with a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Beat on Saturday night at Kennesaw State University Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga.

The teams had played another defensive battle on June 4 that ended in a scoreless draw, but this time the Independence were able to pick up three points on the road.

Boquete netted the winning shot with an assist from Haverford High graduate Sinead Farrelly in the 73d minute. The goal was Boquete's third of the season.

Goalie Val Henderson kept the Beat off the scoreboard.

The first-place Independence (8-2-3) increased their WPS lead to seven points over the Western New York Flash.

They will visit Sky Blue FC on Saturday and the Boston Breakers on July 27 before hosting the Beat (1-10-3) at 6 p.m. July 31.
