Down by two, Mexico rallies past the U.S.

Mexico rallied from two goals down to beat the United States, 4-2, in Saturday night's CONCACAF Gold Cup final at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

Mexico rallied from two goals down to beat the United States, 4-2, in Saturday night's CONCACAF Gold Cup final at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

Pablo Barrera scored two goals, and Andres Guardado and Giovani Dos Santos also scored for Mexico, which advances to the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, a preview of the 2014 World Cup.

Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan scored to help the United States build a 2-0 lead.

But Barrera put Mexico ahead to stay in the 50th minute, slipping a 10-yard shot underneath the right hand of diving goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Mexico's Javier Hernandez, who led this year's Gold Cup with seven goals, was the tournament's most valuable player.

Donovan became the Gold Cup's all-time leading scorer with 13 goals.

San Jose 0, Los Angeles 0. With forward Mike Magee playing the final 47 minutes in goal, the Western Conference-leading Galaxy survived the loss of their two goalkeepers to tie the Earthquakes in an MLS game played at San Jose's Buck Shaw Stadium.

Magee took over in goal for after backup goalkeeper Josh Saunders was ejected. Starter Donovan Ricketts left earlier because of an arm injury.

Salt Lake City 3, Toronto 1. Alvaro Saborio found his offensive form, scoring twice in Real Salt Lake's resounding victory in Sandy, Utah.

Dallas 4, Portland 0. Defenders Zach Loyd and George John scored off corner kicks five minutes apart in the first half to help host FC Dallas rout the expansion Timbers.

Kansas City 2, Vancouver 1. Omar Bravo scored his first goal since mid-March to help Sporting run its unbeaten streak to seven games with a win over the Whitecaps.

Houston 2, Washington 2. Brian Ching scored on a header in the 89th minute to give Dynamo a tie with host D.C. United at RFK Stadium.

FIFA U-17 World Cup. In Group D play in FIFA's Under-17 tournament, the U.S. team tied New Zealand, 0-0, in Pachuca, Mexico. Both teams will advance to the knockout stage.
