Sixers mock draft roundup
Sheil Kapadia
With the NBA draft just nine days away, here's a roundup of mock drafts, along with projections for the Sixers at No. 15.
ESPN.com's Chad Ford has the Sixers taking Kentucky power forward Terrence Jones:
The Sixers might have a tough choice here between Jones, Sullinger and Arnett Moultrie. They need size, but also shooting. Jones may be the compromise. He measured out very well for a power forward at the combine, has an NBA body and proved to be a solid rebounder and shot-blocker in college. He has tremendous upside if he puts his heart into it.
SI.com's Sam Amick has the Sixers selecting Duke shooting guard Austin Rivers:
The Sixers are well-equipped in their backcourt with young Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner, but Rivers could fit in nicely with his ability to create his own shot and play both positions. The bigger [Terrence] Ross is the better shooter and athlete of the two, but he doesn't have Rivers' versatility.
Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com also has them taking Rivers:
Doug Collins and the Sixers need scoring desperately. Doc's kid does just that.
Sean Deveney of The Sporting News thinks the Sixers will end up with UConn guard Jeremy Lamb:
The Sixers could look to move up, they could deal Andre Iguodala, they could deal out of the draft altogether. But they need shooters, and Lamb can shoot.
Draft Express has the Sixers going with Baylor power forward Perry Jones.
Hoops Hype projects Mississippi State power forward Arnett Moultrie to the Sixers:
One of the most athletic bigs in the country, Moultrie is a force on the glass and scores in a variety of ways. He can even step out and bury college three pointers. With great length and agility, Moultrie is an intriguing option for teams looking for size and athleticism. The two big complaints about him are his attitude and lack of strength. His intensity level is not always great, particularly on the defensive end. He also seems to be under 230 pounds, but appears to have the frame to add weight once he gets with NBA trainers. Moultrie is getting looks in the late lottery to mid first round.
Steve Alexander of Rotoworld.com has the Sixers taking North Carolina power forward John Henson:
Elton Brand is getting older and the Sixers could use a defensive banger to replace him. Henson should be just that. If they don’t go with Henson here, Terrence Jones would be another solid option.
Matt Moore of CBSSports.com projects Henson's teammate, Tyler Zeller, to the Sixers:
Doug Collins will love this guy, and he's a significant upgrade over Spencer Hawes, saving them the money on re-signing him.
Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com has them going with Ohio State power forward Jared Sullinger:
Sullinger drops, but maybe to an ideal place. The 76ers can use a power player, and the experienced Sullinger will be an interior presence.
Trade Iggy for the #7 or #8. Draft Terrance Ross. Draft Terrance Jones at #15. Now you have two potential star players in one fell swoop and a realistic hope for the future. PG Holiday, SG/SF Ross, SG/SF Turner, PF Jones, C Vucevic. Stay away from Sullinger, Zeller, Lamb, and Rivers. Take Arnett Moultrie if Terrance Jones is not there ate #15. Al3000
Terrence Ross? Mannnnn, trade Iggy and draft Drummond Ace-Philadelphia
I'm good with that. But it all boils down to being able to trade Iggy for the #7 or #8. Not sure that's gonna happen. World2
I have been saying for a while now that we need to walk away from this draft with both Ross and Moultrie/Jones johnGiam- @AI3000, I like your scenario although we'd be one of the youngest teams so we'd have to surround these guys with proven vets (see OKC Perkins, Sefalosha, Fisher, Collison & Muhammed). The waek link is Vucevic, I don't think he's ready for primetime.
@Ace, In AI3000 we're only trading up to 7 or 8. Most experts believe Drummond will be gone by then. mtairy1
Good to see there's a consensus on who the pick will be. dasher
Terrence Ross is the pick if still there. stayoutofphilly
If Vontaze Burfict is still available...pick him. Astro Jones
Mock Drafts should be stocked next to the Charmin...As it stands now, there are rumors involving the #2,5,6,7,8, and 11th picks being available for trade...so Draft Night should be interesting....Again, the Sixers have been laissez faire in the evaluation process,to the degree that out of 26 guys who have come in to workout, only 3 (Terrence Ross,Moe Harkless,Doron Lamb) are regarded as legitimate 1rst round options...The draft stock of a few players have truly fallen (Jeremy Lamb-interview process,Jared Sullinger-medical tests from Combine most disconcerting)...Rumors that the Sixers want to trade the pick for an established veteran also should not be discounted...My ideal Thurday (of next week) would be Terrence Ross at #15, with a draft night trade made somehow to procure Royce White, the versatile bullvon from ISU. bearsfriend
Although this Draft is regarded as being somewhat deep with prospects that can become decent contributors in the second half of the First Round, the early lottery teams (after New Orleans at #`1) seem lost...Similar to 2010, there are 5 different guys (Drummond,MKG,Harrison Barnes,Bradley Beal,Thomas Robinson) that the Bobcats are considering at #2, a pick they're willing to take offers for...If the Sixers did try to pull a trigger (personally, I'd rather they trade down) and get #2...Bradley Beal would be the guy...IMO. bearsfriend
Sixers need to draft a shooter. Not Waiters or Rivers - their percentages stink. Either of the Lambs, Doron or jeremy have much better shooting percentages. Only one will be left - take him! bwilderd- Of the shooters (after Beal), Ross makes the most sense for the Sixers, as he's athletic on the break, moves great without the ball, and is a true 2 way player...I was a huge Jeremy Lamb fan until I heard the guy talk(he make JaVale McGee look like a Phi Beta Kappa)...NO THANK YOU...Doron Lamb is an interesting name, overlooked on a crowded talent pool as KU, yet the "go to" guy..Fantastic shooter, good athlete, and valuable as a true combo guard as he can give you minutes at PG, which could be an issue...Along with John Jenkins (who they did not bring in), a nice option should they trade down into the 23-30 range, after getting a big first.
bearsfriend - What about his intvw was so bad it turned you off from what you saw on the court? I think Lamb would be a great fit if we moved into the top 10. Fantastic shooter and scorer, athletic, huge wingspan (7'), good defender, and clutch (was superb in the '11 tourney). If we actually moved into the lower half of the top 10 I think he would be BPA assuming other good options wld be gone.

Agree with Bearsfriend; if the Sixers can secure the #2 pick, go for Beal. The Sixers need immediate help, not Drummond who is well down the road. However, given the Sixers somewhat passive attitude thus far, I would not be surprised if they trade the pick for a veteran who can come in and play now. chuckw- Rumor of the day has Iggy going to New Orleans, for the #10 pick, and chain smoking Mehmet Okur (whom I thought was entoombed a few years ago).
