Daily News sports writers Bob Cooney and John Smallwood have targeted seven players who the 76ers could select in the first round of the NBA draft on Thursday. Here are their evaluations of each player and a Draft Meter rating from 1 to 10 on the chances that he will be selected (1 is least likely; 10 is most likely).

I get the feeling that the Daily News was determined to have a face-off between two reporters, rather than let the actual beatwriter for the team go it alone. Thus, Smallwood who looks like he used a dartboard for his guesses.
As for the Sixers Front Office gang not drafting badly over the years, how many starters have they drafted since Iverson, a period of 15 years? Dalembert, Iguodala and Holiday, with Turner starting occasionally. Williams, who I like, and Young have yet to prove they are starters in this league. chuckw- Most of their picks are solid NBA players...Green, Korver, Dalembert, LouWill, Jason Smith, Iggy, Thad, Holiday,. No stars though
John Henson and Royce White will make 6ERS a fun TEAM to watch. Trade either Igg or Thad for #8 spot and get JOHN off the board firt, secondly at 15 we get ROYCE WHITE and all WE can say : WE DO !! for the night.
If we let Thad go, bring Louis Will back and sign him with 6.5 - 7 mil per year (5 yrs), no harm .
Keep EB until next year to get enough money for a START PLAYER to take the TEAM OVER. This is a SOLID PLAN for the future we should consider now.
phillafuN- Sorry Bob but you completely lost me with such a low rating for Zeller but you somehow found a way to give props (limited)to the next Asheem Thabeet, Moultrie. He has bust written all over him.

The first question to these 2 should have been are the Sixers colors red white and blue. They dont agree on anything. And some of there assessments are as different as you can get.

chuck:I did notice it when I read it early this morning, and I was glad to see you called him on it some,,,Each scouting site has their own +/- on skill sets...I believe a real good one is the Mike Schmitz video reports...(BC used this one as I recognize alot of the wordings)...At least BC's measurements are correct...JM's were ridiculously off...Leonard shined offensively at the Combine, which was after all scouting reports on offensive deficiencies were gathered...Also, at Illinois, that really was a bad situation with lots of "keepaway"...What do you think of the Rockets making a run for Dwight Howard?...Kyle Lowry and probably Kevin Martin get traded withing 48 hours. bearsfriend
Is it me or is this the best draft in a long time? JayOfDaJungle
Bear: Rockets just traded for Minnesota's 18th pick for Chase Budinger and the draft rights to Lior Eliyahu and, according to ESPN are looking to trade their two first round picks to move up to #5, Sacramento's pick and trading Lowry for another pick, all to get the Magic to trade Howard. Houston looks to be serious but the Kings have not yet agreed to a deal. chuckw
phillafun:I agree about Royce White being an exciting player...Offensively, he's a rare player who can really help a team both in an up tempo situation as well as the dreary half court sludge that NBA Playoff basketball becomes...He also gives any team instant flexibility in mismatches, and can expose teams in a spaced out floor, which NBA teams strive to do...Good passers breed others on the team to play the same way,IMO. bearsfriend
chuck:These should count as "Draft Night" trades...but, oh well...Interesting that Minnesota traded away #18...Royce White has been quoted as saying he'd lop off his "pinkie right toe" to play at home...guess he'll get an anxiety attack (bad joke)...Regarding the Kings, here's a pathetic note for you...i've read that although they were slotted at #5, Andre Drummond was the ONLY potential top 6 guy to attend an individual workout there!....MKG,Beal,Barnes,Robinson all said "sorry,we're busy"...Lowry and Kevin McHale didn't like each other too much. bearsfriend
Evaluating college players is tough because they play against inferior competition. I like to see what pro players they are being compared to. Here's what I found:
Perry Jones: originally thought to be the next Kevin Durant but I'd settle for the good Rashard Lewis or Rudy Gay. Downside he could be another Tim Thomas
Terrence Ross: could be a Jason Richardson/Eddie Jones type. A unique combination of finishing strong at rim and spot up shooting.
Myers Leonard: downside Robin Lopez, upside Joakim Noah. Both are energetic but only 1 is good.
Austin Rivers: He has a scorers mentality. Some think he can be a scoring pg but I think he's better suited for the 2. He can become a Jason Terry/OJ Mayo player
Moe Harkless: A great athlete who may still be growing. Most compare him to Paul George but if he gets a more consistent outside shot he could develop into Danny Granger,
Tyler Zeller: He's been compared to a lot of people, none of them are that good. I've heard Jeff Foster, Joel Przybilla, Omer Asik, Dan Gadzuric and even Spencer Hawes. He has career NBA role player written all over him.
Arnett Moutrie: Upside Al Horford, downside Jordan Hill. More likely PJ Brown. Cole_World
jayofdajungle:this time last year I couldn't pronounce half of the prospects in the Draft...this year, it's deeper, as so many freshman and sophmores are going pro...It's an interesting problem, talented guys who may still be lacking the completion of their games...Doesit result in a watered down product...or guys that just take longer to blossom, meaning they develop years into their careers, maybe in 2cnd contracts, if they get em. bearsfriend
What would you think if the Sixers drafted Sullinger? A few of the latest mocks have him falling to the Sixers (and below if they don't take a chance on him). If he's healthy, he may have the biggest upside of any power forward in the draft (at least a power forward that the Sixers could potentially draft). terrizeb
