Joel Embiid is averaging 23.8 points and 10.9 rebounds in 31.5 minutes per game this season for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Joel Embiid often makes news when he lands on the 76ers’ injury report. On Friday, he made news for not being on it.

Why?

Embiid, who has missed nine games this year due to injury or rest, was in noticeable pain, and admitted so after Wednesday’s 112-106 win over the visiting San Antonio Spurs due to a sprained right hand.

Despite the discomfort, he managed to score 21 points, grab 11 rebounds and block four shots in 35 minutes and 20 seconds.

When the Sixers delivered the injury report after today’s shootaround in preparation for Friday’s game at the Wells Fargo Center with the Detroit Pistons (20-16), Embiid’s name was absent.

The media only got to view when players were shooting after the shootaround was over. Still, Embiid was shooting freely. So, absent of being on the injury report, he is expected to be a go against Detroit.

Then again, one never knows. He was ruled out of Wednesday’s game, but after warming up told the team he felt good enough to play.

Embiid wasn’t available to speak after shootaround but should talk to the media before tonight’s game. He is averaging 23.8 points and 10.9 rebounds in 31.5 minutes.

After tonight’s game, the Sixers (18-19) are off until playing the Boston Celtics on Thursday in London.

As for the injury report, there were three names. Justin Anderson, who has been out with shin splints since last playing Nov. 15 in a win over the host Los Angeles Clippers, is listed as questionable.

“Now I am back at full strength, and I can’t wait to continue helping being a piece of the team,” Anderson said after the shootaround.

When asked if he thinks he will be ready to go tonight, Anderson said, “Yes. I am ready for sure.”

The other two on the injury report who are out are Markelle Fultz (right shoulder rehabilitation) and Furkan Korkmaz (Lisfranc injury to his left foot).
