Yet another Bynum update
Andrew Bynum said some good things and bad about his aching left knee. When (or if) he'll return, no one knows.
Yet another Bynum update
Bob Cooney
Another update from Andrew Bynum before the 76ers-Clippers game, and another Q and A that produced some more head scratching about the condition of his knees, particularly the left one that has been giving the 7-footer the most pain of late.
Bynum seemed optimistic about the fact that he had been on the court Saturday and Sunday, getting in workouts up to 2 hours. He said in those sessions he was able to do some defensive slides, dunk the ball, run up and down the court and perform post up moves.
Then a bit later, he admitted that the pain was too severe in the left knee to allow any optimism or a time frame as to when he may be back.
“I started to do basketball work,” he said. “I think I worked out for 2 days on the court and then I had a lot of pain so we backed down a little bit (Monday). Probably get on the Alter G (anti gravity machine) tomorrow (Tuesday) and we’ll just progress as much as we can.
I’m not sure (about debuting this month), it’s all going to depend on if we get a setback or not. Right now things are going well, I’m losing weight and I’m staying on the court as long as I can, so that’s good.”
And then came the bad.
“I’m not very optimistic,” Bynum admitted. “When I get on the court, that’s when I want to be ready. I’m trying as hard as I can. It would suck to play through pain but sometimes you have to. Not actually (going through) contact. I went through some drills with teammates and stuff but no contact.”
Asked if this pain is worse than any he’s played through before, Bynum said: “Definitely, I think it’s just not ready yet.”
As for the good coming out of the workouts, Bynum said that he is losing weight, down to about 305 now. He said he likes to play somewhere around 285 to 295.
For now, the saga continues.
PLEASE STOP. For the sake of whatever fans are left just stop. He's not going to play, we're tired of hearing about the same freaking thing. Has there been any news to come from these updates. He's stringing us along collecting his money more worried about his hair than helping this team. Njtod10- "I think I worked out for 2 days"?? I feel for the faction of fans that truly thought this guy had 30 games in him this year
The headline for this article reads "Bynum remains optimistic" then you read the article and it says "I'm not very optimistic" Bynum admitted. Our Philly.com journalists are clearly as dysfunctional as the rest of this organization. CBent1

Can't blame the reporters. They're only reporting what Bynum is saying. Everybody in the comments on this site about sixers articles was saying earlier in the year they wish they had a weekly update and that the organization would let us know what's going on. You got that now so quit complaining....Typical Philly fans not even satisfied when you get what you want... joecooler2u
How was the vacation, PT?
Will someone please explain how a person with 2 shot knees is allowed to balloon up BEYOND 305 pounds when the load should be at 280? Shouldn't a goal for someone with knee problems include weighing the lightest as possible? Where does the GM stand on this issue? Do we have a functioning GM anymore? In summary so far:
Team trades for a center who has 2 bad knees, one is shot. Team obligated to pay 16 million to said player. Gives up promising young center, #1 draft pick, former #1 draft pick, best offensive veteran in Iguodala. Player goes on to not practice or play 1 second of time because of pain in the knee. Goes bowling and afterwards, complains the other knee hurts. Takes shots in knee (after already receiving a knee shot in Duetscheland during the summer). Rumored to be on vacation (!), he returns to advise all that he still aches. Oh, and he is about 25 pounds overweight.
In my own 41 years as a Philadelphia Pro Sports fan, I've seen a lot of great players play in this town. I have seen a lot of stiffs impersonate a pro player while in a Philly uniform. I've seen a lot of great players with promise lose it all thanks to a bad decision or two both on and off the fields and rinks in our town. I was not a fan when Dick Allen started to play mind games with the Phillies and the fans. But this guy takes the cake. It's the classic tail wagging the dog, something that goes on far too much in the NBA. From the ridiculous to the sublime, this story gets more comical every day and we cannot wait for the next daily comic relief to come. Stern should put everyone out of their misery here and decertify the franchise. Oh, and will any reporter have the guts to dig down deep to find out who knew what prior to this farce of a trade? Anyone? DelawareRiverRat
yea what is going on? philly.com is like a tabloid anymore (mtv buckwild cast member getting arrested in front & center on homepage!? with picture). the link said bynum remains optimistic, then he literally says "I'm not optimistic" in this article?!?!?! main liner
This guy Bynum is psychotic. He is not even in the real world. He is complaining about knee pain, after ballooning up to 305, (probably more), while trying to rehab a knee he hurt while on the IR list, by Bowling! Seriously, the guy is mentally ill, and that's the reason the Lakers couldn't wait to move him. The only thing he hasn't done is get into fist fights with his teamates yet, but maybe that is coming if he tries to come back. The so called Sixer organization was out to lunch when they made the trade, and their doctors were paid off to lie about his knees to sell the trade to the fans. People have to realize that the new owners of this team got wealthy by stealing, speculating (gambling) and lying. One of them was a believer in Mitt Romney's 47% theory, an idea which holds working people, normal people, in contempt. They brought in this mega-doofus to hype the team, season ticket sales, and told people he was our new Moses Malone. I would rather we signed Dorothy Malone, at least she was hot. laser5
a fascinating depiction of evil. He should do the halftime shows. He could just sit in a chair at center court and stare at us all. It would be a freak show the likes of which none this side of octo-mom have ever seen before murdock101
pleeeeze: no more updates on bynum. play or don't. fillyfan
Goodbye Andrew,, we neva knew you,,, phillyroni
Kate Fagan would already have had the answers as to who screwed the pooch on the Bynum deal...my guess, much like the Elton Brand debacle, is that because it came together last minute when Collins was commentating on the Olympics instead of concentrating on the team, they didn't do their necessary due diligence on Bynum's knees re: physicals, medical history, etc. and took a shot. Mitchell and Cooney are just mouthpieces for the organization. We haven't had a real beat writer for this team since Fagan left. She'd have gotten the real story already. vdstrading

Bynum will play for the Sixers and he will play well. And I will be back to say 'I told you so' quite frequently. When it comes to bums in Philly sports, the Sixers blog posters are number one. incog69- Uh, maybe you haven't noticed but the season started months ago and the Sixers are well on their way to missing the playoffs. His window to impact this season is already shut
