Wild welcome for Iverson in Turkey

POSTED: Wednesday, November 10, 2010, 4:15 PM

If the scene at the airport upon his arrival Monday in Turkey was not enough, Allen Iverson's official greeting Tuesday drew even more fans and attention.

Iverson's team, Besiktas, hosted a party at its arena, complete with laser lights, music and a smoke machine. More than 1,000 fans attended along with close to 100 members of the media, including CNN, BBC and NBA TV.

Iverson burst through a drapery with his picture on it and ran on to the court with smoke billowing in the air.

After the media event he went to watch the Besiktas FC soccer match and his name was announced at the stadium. More than 30,000 soccer fans were cheering up for him.
