Wayns headed to Sixers camp, Jardine to the Bobcats

When the Sixers convene training camp in October, Villanova and Roman Catholic point guard Maalik Wayns will be among the hopefuls vying for a spot on the roster.

While terms of the deal were not announced, Wayns' agent, Andy Miller, confirmed that Wayns had indeed signed the contract on Monday morning.

Wayns, 6-1 ½ who left school following his junior season, averaged 17.4 points per game on 41.4 percent shooting. He also averaged 4.6 assists per game.

While the Sixers signed veteran point guard Royal Ivey to back up starting point guard Jrue Holiday, Wayns conceivably could make the team as a third point guard. His main competition here is Xavier Silas. Silas suffered a facial injury during play at the Orlando Summer league that required surgery.

In another development, Scoop Jardine, who broke a foot three days before the draft, will probably receive an invitation to come to training camp with the Charlotte Bobcats, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Jardine, who played high his high school ball at Neumann-Goretti, averaged 8.9 points and 4.9 assists as a senior with the Wildcats.
