Updating Sixers' playoff scenarios

POSTED: Monday, April 23, 2012, 8:20 AM

Which team would you prefer to see the Sixers play in the first round of the playoffs?
Chicago Bulls
Miami Heat

The Sixers can clinch a playoff berth with a win Monday night at New Jersey or a Milwaukee loss at home to Toronto.

They currently sit in the eighth seed, which would mean a first-round matchup with the Chicago Bulls if the playoffs started today.

The Sixers are a half-game behind the New York Knicks for the seventh seed. The Knicks have two games remaining; the Sixers have three.

Chicago has a two-game lead over Miami for the No. 1 seed. The Bulls are at Indiana on Wednesday and host Cleveland on Thursday. Miami is at Boston on Tuesday and closes the regular season at Washington on Thursday. The Bulls' magic number to clinch the top seed is one, because they own the tiebreaker over Miami.

In a Chicago Tribune poll today, 78 percent of respondents said they would rather see the Bulls face the Sixers than the Knicks in Round 1.

Here are the remaining schedules for the Sixers, Bucks and Knicks:

Sixers

Games remaining: 3 (0 home, 3 away)

Monday: at New Jersey

Wednesday: at Milwaukee

Thursday: at Detroit

Milwaukee

Games remaining: 3 (2 home, 1 away)

Monday: vs. Toronto

Wednesday: vs. Sixers

Thursday: at Boston

New York

Games remaining: 2 (1 home, 1 away)

Wednesday: vs. Clippers

Thursday: at Charlotte

Sixers need a personality for the playoffs, stop changing he starting lineup, and do what they do. Next season, they have to find a way to feature EVAN TURNER, and Vuc needs a short range jumper [ala Dirk].

Likelihood is that the Sixers will finish as the 8th seed. The will need to get their act together especially Meeks if they want to learn anything in this post season appearance. Also, they will need to tighten up their team defense as in covering the pick and roll better. They have had issues with that all year. Setting hard screens needs to be addressed as well since getting an open shot in the playoffs will be difficult. Chances are low in advancing past the 1st round but playing against the Bulls with an injured Rose seems to have a better chance than the Heat.

Why is there even a poll up ther? We have a 0% chance to beat either of those teams. And if your one of those "anything can happen" people. Your just blind or ignorant or both.

I agree we needed a 3rd choice: miss the playoffs :-(

0% chance? I doubt it. We actually match up much better with the Bulls than most teams do. Missing the playoffs isn't an automatic draft win. We've been better at mid first rounders than the few times we get a high pick with the exception of Iguodala. Jrue was taken 16. Lou was a 2nd rounder. Turner was #2 and can't even get a start over Jodie freaking Meeks. Not that it's so much Turner's fault cause DC loves Meeks. Missing the playoffs isn't all it's cracked up to be. It can take years of losing to get a superstar and still look at Washington, New Jersey, Cavs, Hornets, Bobcats etc. You think mediocrity is bad, years of losing bigtime and not improving is much worse. I don't have that much confidence in our ability to pick right even if we got a high pick. Our draft history is a joke.

I think they have a legit chance to win all 3 games this week. 36-30 would be a step up from last year. They can
not beat either potential opponent but I want to see continued improvement. How to do it is a mystery. Cannot see them getting an elite free agent.

Who cares? Let's just get the season over with and clean house starting with Thorn, Collins, Iggy, Brand, Hawes, Jrue, and especially "Glue" Meeks. If not for Collins, Meeks wouldn't even be in the NBA let alone be a starter. He doesn't deserve to be in the NBA.

Based on the way they started the season - how can anyone say "36-30 would be a step up" - they are awful, gonna get their doors blown off in round 1 and settle for another wasted draft pick. Might as well send the scouts to Serbia now

We put up enough with the Jeff Laurie mentality of just crawl into playoffs, and get owners some extra cash before bowing out, now, 2nd year in a row supposed to be excited while Sixers play same game???

there u go a real fan...just like ppl thought there was no way flyers can beat the best two players in the world...remember stars are made in the playoffs if evan turner become a star now would be the time and we know what jrue can do if he was the SG..these players are not even in their mid 20's yet

...the key difference being that the Flyers had the 3rd best record in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers also have actual good players, the Sixers...do not.

Im sooo disappointed in this Sixers team. After the 20-9 start, i though that we had a really good chance at winning the division(which would have put us against the Hawks, a very favorable matchup), but after seeing how we played over the last month and a half, i cant see us winning more than one playoff game, maybe two, and than out in the 1st round AGAIN. They really let me down.

popoff, I know they can beat The Bulls! They are deeper and if Rose is nicked up, we may actually get a game or 2 that he doesn't play at all. I say 6 because a game 7 in Chicago would be very difficult.

One thing's for sure: we match up much better with the Bulls than the Heat. I don't think I can stand to watch another 30-point drubbing by Lebron et al. Let's do whatever takes to stay out of the 7 spot...

What's unrealistic about the 76ers having a chance against the Bulls? They were 1-2 but in all 3 games. They are starting to play like they did in the beginning of the season so they are gelling at the right time. I'd pick their chances over the Bulls against their chances over the Heat anyday. They haven't beat Miami in quite awhile...

As long as the Sixers dont see the Heat they could have a chance. Chris Bosh abuses the sixers every chance he gets. And the Bulls dont really have a low post presence that would kill the Sixers on a consistent basis like Bosh could. Better hope the Bulls keep playing for playoff position and the Knicks dont start falling off.
