The Benching of the Sixers

The Sixers' bench has outscored its starters in February.

The 76ers' bench has been good all season — the Daily News, philly.com and all the ships at sea have learned. But since Feb. 1, the reserves' performance (whomever that may be on any given day) has been off the charts.

In eight February games, the Sixers' bench has outscored its starters by 380-354 despite playing a cumulative total of 330 fewer minutes than those on the court at the opening tap.

To put that in perspective, the bench is averaging about 115 points per 48 minutes played this month. The starters just over 75.

The complete breakdown for Feburary is below:

Notable: The bench has outscored the starters in six of eight February games ... Andre Iguodala, Jodie Meeks and Jrue Holiday have started all eight February games. Elton Brand and Spencer Hawes, the other regular starters, have missed two and six games, respectively. Lavoy Allen (four starts), Tony Battie (two) and Nikola Vucevic (two) have filled in for them ... The bench is shooting 47.8% from the floor over the eight games, the starters just 40.9% ... The starters as a group are averaging just 8.5 turnovers per 48 minutes in February, which is good until you compare it to the bench's 6.0 ... Over the entire season, the Sixers are 6-2 when the bench outscores the starters.
