Sixers met with Doug Collins

POSTED: Sunday, May 2, 2010, 6:17 PM

Sixers president and general manager Ed Stefanski met yesterday with Doug Collins in Phoenix, regarding the Sixers vacant head coaching position, the team said in a statement.

Joining Stefanski at the meeting with Collins was Sixers senior vice president and assistant GM Tony DiLeo and Sixers consultant Gene Shue.

"We had a very productive meeting yesterday with Doug to discuss the position and his philosophies," Stefanski said. "He is someone who has a proven track record as a head coach and has great knowledge of the game. We appreciate him taking the time to meet with us.

"We will continue our due diligence on all the candidates as we continue to narrow our search for a new head coach."

According to a source, the Sixers are scheduled to meet tomorrow with Avery Johnson.

I say give Mike Woodson a interview when Atlanta gets eliminated. But if Mike doesn't want to coach the Sixers. Hire Collins or Hire Johnson if he takes us instead New Orleans. but I doubt he's take us instead of NOH so I say Collins.

no coach alive can win the current Sixers squad. Unless a major overhaul with the roster happens dont expect a coaching change to make much difference. Guys like Brand, Dalembert, Young and Iguodala are not guys who can beat the likes of James, Wade, Howard and Garnett in the east.. We are cooked for a long long time.

Tony DiLeo and Gene Shue apparently traveling with our lame duck GM to confirm that he is in fact doing his 'due diligence' and actually talking TO coaching candidates, not just talking about them.

bradco, 42Homestead - couldn't agree more, so why not give a defensive guy an opportunity and use his time preaching defensive fundamentals?

I recall that Avery didnt want the job last year because he was insulted that he would go through the interview process and had to compete with other candidates. Thats all we need is a primadonna coach who talks like mickey mouse.

Stefanski wouldnt know a good coach if he came up and bit him on the a--. The first thing the sixers should do is get rid of him. After his last pick he should have been run out of town on a rail.

KingBlackCharger - thanks for posting that link. HOW IS STEFANSKI STILL IN HIS CURRENT JOB. This thing doesn't even start turning around until someone else - someone with a clue how to build a good team - is driving the ship.
