Sixers in talks for Carmelo Anthony, Western exec says
Bob Cooney
The Sixers and Denver are talking about a potential trade that would bring Carmelo Anthony to Philadelphia and send Andre Iguodala to Denver, a Western Conference executive has confirmed to the Daily News.
The executive said Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri has spoken with Ed Stefanski.
Other players would need to be involved in the trade to match salaries.
The Sixers are not among the four teams that Anthony has said are his preferred destinations, with Chicago and New York at the top of his list.
The Sixers also would need to get Anthony to sign an extension. His contract expires after the season and he has not signed a 3-year extension offered by Denver.
Iguodala agreed to a 6-year, $80 million contract with the Sixers in August 2008.
Reports late last week had Anthony close to going to New Jersey in a complex four-team deal that also involved Utah and Charlotte. The New York Daily News is reporting that the Bobcats are holding up the deal, unwilling to include point guard D.J. Augustin. Charlotte was expecting Augustin would replace Raymond Felton, who left this offseason via free agency.
With that deal in peril, the Nuggets have explored other options.
Indications are that the Nuggets would like a deal done before they begin training camp tomorrow.
Baseball also same thing.Almost month ago you know who will play post season and if you are more talented you already know which team will play world series. likhon1969

I don't see this happening, but maybe the Nuggets management is getting desperate, but what can Carmelo by himself do for the Sixers but increase tickets sales? I'm for it I guess, but I think Melo wants to be a Knick badly SouthJerseyMike
YES ! Please get rid of Iggs !! Matter of fact, I would trade Iggs JUST for Melo's used socks. That's how much Iggs is worth in my opinion. xiaoer
According to numerous reports, the Anthony trade to the Nets is done, except that the Nuggets want to try again to keep him and thus are dragging their feet. There is NO chance that Anthony would sign an extension with the Sixers. The Nets will be bad, admittedly, but he apparently loves the idea of the megabucks he could make from the new Russian owner and the megabucks from endorsement deals in New York. chuckw
someone asked, whats the worst that can happen??...uf the 6ers pull it off, thats the worst, that can happen.the nuggets want too much, and to get melo, isn't where they (6ers) want to go.the nuggets are looking to get younger, which is ok,but nbot at the 6ers expense.i love melo, but this isn't the situation for him.jersey, might be a better fit for him,but jersey is foolish,to give up favors to get melo.this is a crazy move for jersey, they should rebuild with the younger guys.we'll see how it all unfolds.

Unfortunately, I just read an article from NBC sports: here's the link... http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/denver-philadelphia-talking-carmelo-anthony-andre-iguodala-trade.php noho_wrestler
You'd have to be a fool to take this article seriously. The Nets are offering Favors and 2 #1 picks. The Sixers would have to give up a lot, lot more. gluteman- Anything that will make the team better is worth considering, but I would keep Jrue and Turner. We have been patient, lets start building something worth watching. Iggy for Carmello is straightforward, but if they want more I would not be anxious. JohnFC
- @ heaterman - when were the pre-Jordan Bulls anything but bottom feeders? He made the Bulls what they are. Bob Love, Norm Van Lier and company never even made a Finals series.
I don't see 'Melo coming here, but then again, why not? He'd be really close to his roots in Baltimore (and his wife's in NYC), in a major city whose team DESPERATELY needs a bonafide star to build around and the PR juice that comes with it. Moreover, Iggy's coming off a great summer in Turkey. He will probably revert to the maddening game that's made him so frustrating all these years - trying to be a perimeter sniper while refusing to play to his strengths - and we have guys who can play his position.
DO IT, SIXERS. GIVE ME A REASON TO WATCH... Doctor D
He is arguably the most gifted offensive weapon in the NBA (Durant will be once he can post up at will, Kobe and LBJ are not as complete), but he is also lazy on defense. You would have to give up Iggy (gladly, way over valued right now), Kapono (or more so the expiring contract he has, and again, gladly), 2 #1s and someone else (probably Hawes). But you have Jrue, ET, Melo, Speights and Brand as your starting 5, Thaddeus and Lou Williams first off the bench. The Reddgie
someone should explain something to melo. If you play really well, you will never lose philly fans. Ask Allen Iverson. Honestly why would anyone really want to go to the nets. It would have been different if they could have gotten one of the big three but they didn't. Philly has a good young nucleus, a good coach, and a loyal fanbase. I think if we make the trade he probably realizes this and signs back. People are afraid to come here but if they do their job they usually stick around. loki0284
