The 76ers have signed Allen Iverson to a one-year contract.
Sixers Sign Iverson
It's a done deal. The 76ers have signed free agent guard Allen Iverson, and said he will make his debut Monday night when they face the Denver Nuggets at the Wachovia Center.
"The buzz is here," Iverson's agent, Leon Rose, told the Daily News this morning. "It's a great opportunity for Allen and something I know he's extremely excited about and looking forward to."
Iverson, who lives in Atlanta, is expected to arrive in Philadelphia in the next day or two.
A source familiar with the Sixers situation said the deal is for the remainder of the season, pro-rated at $1.3 million, the NBA veterans' minimum for players with at least 10 seasons of experience. The source said it is non-guaranteed, but would become guaranteed if Iverson is on the roster Jan. 10.
"In light of the recent injury to Lou Williams, which will sideline him for close to eight weeks, we felt that Allen was the best available free agent guard to help us at this time,'' said Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski.
Iverson was waived Nov. 16 by the Memphis Grizzlies after appearing in just three games. He and agent Leon Rose negotiated a settlement of his one-year contract.
Iverson spent the first 10 seasons-plus of his career with the Sixers before being traded to the Nuggets in December, 2006. He was subsequently traded to the Detroit Pistons.
Iverson, 34, is a 10-time All-Star and a four-time scoring champion. He was the league's Most Valuable Player in 2000-01.

Thank God! I can finally enjoy a Sixer game once again. For all of you AI detractors...move to another city! (You are probably the same people that think McNabb is a loser) AI and McNabb have done more for this city and our teams than anyone in the history of the franchises (aside from Wilt C). If you were born in the 80's and 90's, you have no clue what it means to be a suffering Philly fan. Go AI! (the best little man to ever play hoops)! drantonio1
Phil, do you proofread before you post? Ugly looking article, but hey, you got it posted quick. The Truth Hurts- "AI back with the Sixers, ARE YOU KIDDING ME" - Tome McGinnis joeolive
it'll put butts in the seats, but this team is years away from being a contender. need two future hall of famers on one team to win a championship. look at the past 2 decades! evlowl

Senior specials at Friendly's effective on Monday. mick314- That should have been Tom, not TomE....... IF this move sells tickets and the Sixers get a lottery pick, it will be a win-win situation.... just have to sit the young guys down and tell them "Watch and learn how NOT to be a team player" joeolive
Way Kool! The circus is back in town...I heard all the employees at Fridays on City Line just quit... feudi
Team is bad. They need a superstar to improve long term. Iverson is not the answer to improve situation. mikegrim
