Sixers waive newly acquired Darryl Watkins
The Sixers waived center Darryl Watkins, who was acquired in a three-team trade last Wednesday.
The Sixers obtained Watkins from New Orleans and forward Dorell Wright from Golden State while sending the rights to Edin Bavcic to the Hornets, who also traded Jarrett Jack to the Warriors.
In 14 career games across two seasons with Sacramento and New Orleans, Watkins has averaged 2.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 12.0 minutes per game.
Watkins, 6-10, went undrafted out of Syracuse in 2008 and has played for numerous teams in summer leagues and training camps along with several teams overseas.

Wow.. This is a shocker. I thought Watkins would push Kwame Brown for starter minutes this season?? Or they could rotate the twin towner with Brown, Hawes, & Watkins.. - It's not like they just got rid of "Chocolate Thunder," Daryl Dawkins! This Daryl is simply another meat pie who would have taken Tony Battie's spot at the end of the bench. The difference being that Battie was a has been and this guy is a never was. Kwame Brown made the list of the fifty worst players in the NBA. He wasn't even very high on that list. The core of the Sixers is younger, stronger and faster, but not wiser or better with the new bodies they picked up...or is it scraped up? I do look forward to seeing the rookies in action. - Al Jefferson will come in and Kwame Brown will be a backup. He is not an NBA center. He blocked less than one shot per game in his NBA career. How could anyone consider him any kind of solution at center?— Horlet
