The Sixers will begin training camp with high hopes and four new players. The team announced today that it had signed the four free agents to bring to training camp. Signed were Dan Gadzuric, Devin Searcy, Xavier Silas and Damien Wilkins.
The 6-11, 240-pound Gadzuric has been in 527 NBA games, averaging 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds during his 10 seasons. Las season he played in China and for the NBADL before signing with the Knicks in late April.
Searcy (6-10, 226) went undrafted out of Dayton in 2011 and played in the Japan league last year. He was a participant for the Sixers in the Orlando Summer League this past July, averaging 7.4 points and 7.6 rebounds.
The 6-5, 205-pound Silas was in the Sixers training camp last season before playing for the Maine Red Claws in the NBADL. He joined the Sixers late in the season and appeared in two games and was part of their playoff roster, seeing action in two more games.
Wilkins (6-6,225) has appeared in 502 NBA games with an average of 6.3 points and 2.5 rebounds. He played 60 games for the Detroit Pistons last season.
y wont Xavier silas ever go away? he is like, "the cat came back, the very next day.the cat came back, he thought he was a goner but the cat came back.the cat just couldnt stay awaaaaaaaaaay"
Is it really too much to ask to have both Xavier and Jodie to be completely removed from my world? johnGiam
Why can't they find a decent point guard to play back-up. I want better than Royal Ivey. ricky- Watch Maalik Wayns ball in exhibition season. He's going to make DC think hard about using a rookie on the floor as a change of pace PG off the bench...Royal Ivey will be a good soldier, and a defensive in your face hustler late in quarters in some games.
bearsfriend - If you are right about Wayns being a capable up-tempo point guard, then this team would have truly crazy depth. I can imagine Evan Turner involved in a trade for a stud power forward. An aging Dirk Nowitski would look fantastic next to Bynum. Dare to dream...

Turner will play at the point, too. Paul SoTX
@johnGiam, I love that song DeathPenalty94
Wayns is still on the roster too. le sigh- Good to see Xavier back playing ball after that nasty spill and facial fractures in the summer league. God is good.
It's easy to see why these guys are here, Gadzuric & Searcy will be in camp to push Hawes & Allen. A rugged vet like Wilkins will be getting physical with the light in the pants N. Young. Purely training camp bodies so as not to overwork Bynum, Kwame & J-Rich. mtairy1 - Gadzuric is a favor to the agent...Searcy showed some ability in the Summer...He's learned some schemes, and will make guys work as he's energetic...Need bodies for scrimmages.

@mtiary1 - Agreed. These look like signings designed to make training camp more competitive, not find guys that could end up playing a bench role. Wouldn't be shocked if somebody made it through (don't remember if there are open roster spots at the moment, think there's one), but they're focused on competition for inter-squad workouts. What's up with Holiday's brother? He played well in summer league. jmb53- He played with the Cavs in Vegas after his week with the Sixers in Orlando...they were impressed as well...lots of energy, but needs serious rocks in his pockets.

Gadzuric will outplay Kwame, but Kwame's got the contract. person
Sound like some future hall-of-famers. Boru
Looks like they got some decent bench players if they can make the cut. Andrew Grier
ay deathpenalty: r u serious? I hate that song! just typing the words to it yesterday got it plastered back in my head. Like Xavier silas, and the cat in the song, that song NEVER GOES away!
Love Wayans on our team, and not just because Im a Roman Catholic High school Homer. At a school that EXPECTS championship, Wayans hung his championship Banner so I will always root for him. He added to the legacy of countless ballers before him, and he represented us players of the past well on and off the court. Really glad to have him in Philly....
As for the point guard issues, im not too worried about it. a) I believe in wayans, even as a rookie to give you 10-15 good minutes if needed on the offensive end. The question is how long will it take for coach curry to trust him. I also really believe that the sixers are keeping tabs of Calderone, who could be had at the deadline if we are struggling at the pg position. johnGiam
gadzuric will not out play Kwame. I actually like Gadzuric on the bruins. Thought he would have been an ok pro. "Baby, I was WROOOONG (in my best bernie mac voice)". Kwame will beat him down! johnGiam
Out of all these practice guys. Dan Gadzuric is the most experienced, & body of need!...There's never enough servicable bigmen you can add to a team!...Defense win championships. Something we need, as opposing teams players will have to find a way to shoot over these Sixers bigmen...Malik Wayns will prove to all he can play backup for Jrue...While Jrue better be on point with his game. Because once Malik Wayns get in the game, it will be hard to take him out!..& DIS "DA TRUTH"!...lol & go Sixers! datruth
