Jordan meets with Iverson

POSTED: Monday, November 30, 2009, 4:19 PM

Video addition: Just spoke with Eddie Jordan here in Dallas. Jordan said the meeting with Iverson was "intriguing," said he liked what he heard, and that Iverson would bring an aggressive scoring mentality. You can check out the first 90 seconds of Jordan's press conference in the Deep Sixer video player below on the right.

Update: According to David Aldridge, Sixers management has given the basketball side the go-ahead to sign Iverson if it wants. Team owner Ed Snider has signed off on Iverson's return, if that's what the basketball side of things determines is best.

76ers head coach Eddie Jordan and General Manager Ed Stefanski met with Allen Iverson in Dallas early this afternoon, this according to a source close to the situation. The Sixers, very soon, should be releasing a statement to this effect.

Details about the meeting -- or Iverson's potential return to the Sixers -- are still being worked out, but it's confirmed that he's "not yet" -- not at this moment -- a Sixer. No decision is expected about Iverson before tonight's game.

Stefanski just released a statement about the meeting that said "At this time, both parties remain non-committal regarding a final decision and we will continue to discuss internally whether or not to pursue this course."

Stefanski confirmed the meeting included Tony DiLeo and Aaron McKie on the Sixers side and agent Leon Rose and manager Gary Moore on Iverson's side.

The Sixers are in Dallas for tonight's game against the Mavericks. Speculation had been swirling about the Sixers potential interest in the former all-star guard, who played 10-plus seasons with the Sixers before being traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2006.

Yesterday, Jordan said he had no plans to fly to Atlanta to meet with Iverson. Jordan also said "No, not that I know of," when asked if Iverson might come meet with the Sixers on a stop along this road trip.

Sometime between then and this afternoon, that changed. It's confirmed the Sixers are weighing their options at bringing in a free-agent guard since starting point guard Lou Williams had surgery on a broken jaw and will miss 8 weeks.

If the Sixers sign Iverson, they are showing that they really have no rebuilding plan in place, or they've scrapped the one they had. Obviously Iverson is a detriment to the Sixers building a strong, young foundation. The Sixers a bigger boneheads than I thought for even considering this. I can't believe upper management actually gave the okay. The pits!

There is no way this deal doesn't get done. By the time this team returns from this four-game road trip, Iverson will be a Sixer. Next two home games are the Nuggets and Pistons. How fitting?

I would rather have a team lose with players with integrity than win with a player like Iverson

I love reading posts from the numbskulls who think he's going to sell thousands of tickets. That will happen for @ 2 weeks. Then, you'll be hearing the crickets again at the Wachovia Center. In the meantime, if the loser actually scores enough to win a few extra games, that buries them farther down in the lottery for no good reason. I really thought Stefanski knew his stuff coming here, but if he does this, it's offical: he had to be a special ed student at Penn.

Let Holiday play. This is his chance. He's got 8 weeks to learn ON the court and show us a little of what he's got. He's been taking it all in OFF the court by sitting on the bench so lets see what he can do. We need lottery/high draft picks. We dont need the same thing to happen this year thats been happening every year... squeezing by into the playoffs and losing the 1st round and then getting another run of the mill draft pick. I dont understand the ignorance of people here... Everyone is saying "sign him we're not going anywhere anyway". So because we're not gonna win a title this year that means we're still not working towards a goal? We're trying to rebuild and develop these young players. I dont want that halted just because the fans miss a player whos now on the decline. Doesnt anyone wonder why or Dont any of you think theres a reason why he's been on 4 different teams in the past 4 years? Or how about why he's there for the taking right now for practically nothing and NOBODY wants him? Even the PATHETIC NY Knicks dont even want him. Now that should tell you something right there.
