Is Philly the sports capital of the world?

Boston teams may have won seven championships in the last decade, but the recent buzz surrounding the Phillies and Eagles has Philadelphia threatening to usurp Beantown as "The Sports Capital of the World."

A poll on ESPN.com indicates, thus far, that our fair city has decisively yanked the status of top dog in the sports world from Boston. Philadelphia led the early head-to-head vote by a margin of 69 percent to 31 percent.

It's not hard to see why many consider Philadelphia to be the current center of the sports cosmos. The Phillies hold the best record in Major League Baseball, thanks in large part to marquee pitchers Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, and the Eagles have become the darlings of the NFL thanks to a recent flurry of big-name signings and bold acquisitions. Along with the Flyers' major shakeup and the sale of the Sixers, the city's teams have become a mainstay in the national headlines.

With the Phillies quite possibly on a World Series collision course with the Red Sox, and with the Eagles and Patriots both popular (if early) Super Bowl picks, Boston and Philly may get the chance to settle this argument on the field in the very near future.

Just say no to whatever drugs you are taking. Like how the first word in the body of your article is Boston.

    ...uh...
The "sports capital" of the United States perhaps. but the "world"? Not a chance.
I'm from Philly and I LOVE our sports! But I've traveled the world quite a bit (for my part). And the two most popular sports on the earth are world football (soccer) and cricket. If a given city does NOT have those two sports, then it simply can not be the "sports capital of the world". (It's been estimated that more people in the country of India ALONE watch cricket than people watch American Football WORLD WIDE)
We Americans, as a whole, may not particularly like soccer or cricket. But you can't simply pretend they don't exist.
    GO FLYERS!

Philadelphia always seems to have great teams that can't win anything. The 2008 Phillies the lone exception. The Flyers 36 years, The Eagles 51 years, The Sixers 28 years. The greatest sports city, HARDLY

typical negladelphia. just so you people know since you cant read, this article came about due to a poll that philadelphia is winnin 69-31 on ESPN. Since most of you dont know what ESPN is, because your Morons, ill fill you in; ITS THE LARGEST SPORTS MEDIA IN THE WORLD! Which means the votes are comming from people all over the world. This poll merely states that people, all over the world, are all recognizing philadelphia as a sports town due to their recent aggresiveness. Be negavive about it all you want, but this poll is comming from people who arent negative philly fans. Try to enjoy it, and hope for those championships instead calling people stupid for a poll they are pointing out to make YOU feel better as fans.

We have a lot of sports history in Philly but to be a Sports Capital you've got to be winning and for a long time that was a word (winning) that we couldn't spell. But nothing wrong with wishful thinking.
