Iguodala trade rumor and Rudy Gay
This offseason will be filled with plenty of trade rumors involved the Sixers and Andre Iguodala.
One that was kicking around recently is a swap of Iguodala to Memphis for Rudy Gay.
Asked last week by the Daily News about Iguodala's future, Sixers president Rod Thorn said:
"There are some players that are less likely to move than others. If you can make a deal that makes sense, either in short or long-term, you always look at it. It’s obviously about acquiring talent, and obviously Andre is a very talented player who can help a team in more ways than most players can. I’m just trying to look at ways we can help our team."
As for Rudy Gay, though, Memphis Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley wanted to make his position clear: The team is not trading him.
How clear? Heisley called Memphis Commercial Appeal columnist Geoff Gaulkins and asked him to write that Gay was not going anywhere in order to stop the rumors.
Very little subtlety here, as Caulkins writes:
Mike Heisley was on the phone from Chicago. Something was plainly bothering him.
"You could do me a favor," he said.
For you, Mike? Anything.
"Would you please make it clear that we're not trading Rudy Gay?"
You're not? But I keep hearing all these NBA types say that you might well trade him.
"I know," said Heisley. "And, quite frankly, it (ticks) me off. I think it's cruel to the guy. He died during this period. That's how much he wanted to play. And to now have to hear that we're trading him? There's nothing more untrue than that."
So, I should write that he'll be back?
"Let me tell you something," said Heisley. "No disrespect to Oklahoma City, but if we had had Rudy Gay, we would have won the bleepity-bleep series going away. I really believe that."
That could put this one to bed regarding Gay for Iguodala, but there are bound to be plenty more.

- Who fabricated this rumor.... a rumor that isn't even a rumor.
- Here is a rumor...Iggy and our first round pick gets traded to Cleveland for one of their two lottery picks, and a player to be named... Cleveland had all their season ticket holders renew before James bolted for Miami. The stands were packed for this lowly team because people bought the tickets and there is nothing better to do in cleveland. But now, with prospects of season ticket holders jumping ship, cleveland has to do something in the offseason to excite its fan base. They are not getting a superstar, so a supposed superstar might do the trick. FO should consider some moves with the needy Cavs.
Fo Fo Fo
I said they would never trade Gay for Andre. No GM will take Iguodala's huge contract unless you take back some awful contracts. No one will trade you a good player for him. His reputation is that he fades when it counts and is a stat stuffer. I told Kate and I will tell you, Andre is NOT tradeable until the last year of his deal...unless you take back some garbage. JonKap- It has nothing to do with Iguodala's contract. You don't necessarily have to take garbage back either. Two or three bench players is what you would get back. Iguodala is better than Stackhouse was when he got traded for McKie and Ratliff. We here knew Mckie but he wasn't a household name around the league. Ratliff was a bench player that was made a starter her and had some success. You don't have to like Iguodala but stop with all the "he is not tradeable nonsense. Anyone can be moved at anytime. You don't know the motivating factors behind another's team to make a trade. Maybe team X has to move a good player they know won't resign and wants to get something.... As for the Grizzlies Memphis isn't moving Rudy Gay because they like their team the way it is. Iguodala would be an upgrade over Tony Allen. And a slight downgrade from Gay. So that's a trade just to make a trade.

Iggy for Rudy Gay?....yes i would do that. Iggy for Rudy Gay's toaster?....yes i would do that too. lets make a deal! IcanTakeit

Gay gets 19 mil a year. He is an albatros to a salary cap. Sixers need to focus on developnig young players and having a pipeline of CBA and international players they can pull from as the cap is lowered at the existing players are looking for too much cash. A truly hard cap at around 45 mil a year is highly likely and if Gay got 19 mil of that, how would the Sixers pay for Jrue, Evan etc. LGbalsac- You can't even make this trade straight up anyway. Gay is a base year compensation player, his actual trade value 6,801,875.
Darn.... IvanDejesus
Only in a wet dream would this rumor be true. ericg610
So you're saying that Memphis DOESN'T want to trade their best pure scorer for a defensive stopper when they've got Tony Allen filling that EXACT SAME ROLE for about 25% of the money? Goodness. Next you'll be telling me that the sun will rise in the East tomorrow morning. JLB
Rudy Gay's overall defense isn't on AI9's, but is still rather good, and is only going to get better. And he's an efficient, lethal scorer, he shoots the three well now, and has the handles to rattle the rim, or execute a sweet layup. Would've been highway robbery if that trade would've happen, imo. BlackFeet01
if the flyers said this, gay would be traded within a week. section707
Can we please focus on NEEDS! We need an outside shooter/scorer and we need a better than average center. wordsword
Great player, but his jersey doesn't sell too well. Roger Podacter
git rid of iggy! Don Cornelius
A trade I can see happen is James Harden for Iggy. OKC needs someone to defend the other team's best player (which frees up Westbrook or Durant to score the ball) and distribute the ball on offense. Let's face it, Westbrook isn't a pure PG. Harden fills a need in the starting lineup. Case closed. beegal99
If this deal was possible, I would do it in a heartbeat. Gay would provide you with the true scorer this team lacks. 22pts a game would look great in a Sixers uniform. As far as the contract goes Gay has one more year than Iggy. Sixers fans are clueless, they have some nice young players but they have anybody on the roster to compete with the top tier teams. They need an impact player and Gay would provide that. Memphis could be willing to move Gay because they need to sign Marc Gasol in the offseason. Lancer255
I want to trade Iggy for this dude I seen on Frankford ave. He was tall and looked atheletic. Im sure he could be had. He was selling vegetables at a decent price. hipdaddy
While Rudy Gay is a nice player, if this is the kind of guy the 76ers are looking to peddle Iguodala for, then it is more clear than ever that the 76ers not only need a new FO, they need a new MO too. The 76ers need bigs, they need rebounders, and they need more PG help. The Bulls may not beat the Heat in this series, but the Bulls won game 1 because of a deep bench, limiting turnovers, and dominating the boards, which might have been the biggest key. You don't dominate the boards or defend the paint with swingmen, and doing both is critical to winning an NBA title. 76erfn
The way the playoffs ended for Memphis told me Gay wasn't going anywhere. He's their only consistent perimeter scorer.
@beegal99, nice thought but OKC isn't going to break up their young nucleus of Durant, Westbrook, Harden & Ibaka. The Celtics wanted Harden badly in the Perkins deal and OKC wouldn't budge. mtairy1
How about Marc Gasol? alwaysphil1
A trade I can see happen is James Harden for Iggy. OKC needs someone to defend the other team's best player--SAID beegal99----------That makes a lot of sense for both teams---as Iggy and Durant get along plus Iggy gets back with Mo-and he is the third option on a great team.Arizona for Ariz State trade and Harden gets turned loose with the sixers--But i still prefer Iggy to stay.If healthy -he will have a monster year.
HO HUM
I never even heard of these Gay rumors about Iggy... Philly Fan in Kuwait
To trade Rudy Gay would be senseless, by keeping him it's like getting a number one draft pick only better, they didn't have him for the entire playoffs now he comes back and adds to your team. What would that playoffs run been like with Gay available who knows he could have been the difference maker we could be talking Dallas vs Memphis instead. Unless we get something in return that can takes us to the next level I would not trade Iggy. We have enough eccess fat else where on the team to just bring in another player. There was a time when the Lakers were interested in Iggy not sure if this is still the case but if Bynam were available this would be a good piece to pick-up. Then there is also the possibility that Greg Olden is avaialble and is finished with his injuries. But to trade Iggy for a guy like the bald headed dude on the clippers would be like resigning Jeff Rouland. rayzoe
@rayzoe, LMAO...like resigning Jeff Ruland, that's a good one. mtairy1
It's all these fan fantasy trades that crack me up. Either trying to get someone unrealistic for Iguodala (hey maybe try to trade him for Kobe while you're at it) even if salaries don't match or teams wouldn't be remotely interested. Now some people do undervalue Iguodala. He plays much better defense than people think (especially when healthy) and this past year was the low in his scoring, though the team is able to spread out the scoring to whoever is hot on a given night. Kaman might be the option when you think about his rebounding and instant chemistry with having played with Brand before. Start him and have Hawes come off the bench. When Kaman's contract runs out either resign him on the cheapside or use the cap space to get someone else. Maybe the Clippers will be more likely to trade him for Iguodala now that they saw what Iggy could do defensively. AI would be willing to play in LA I'm sure. I think the thing about a Kaman trade is it would give you flexibility. You take the year to see if you like what you got and if you don't you can sign & trade or let him go and if you do you should be able to resign him on the cheap side cause of injury issues. Win-win in my opinion. I doubt we could get either of the Gasol's, DeAndre, Nene etc because those teams will most likely keep those guys. Kaman might even be unrealistic because 7 foot guys who can score and rebound are harder to get these days and the guy can also pass getting 1 & 1/2 assists a game. If you get him you try to draft a big who can develop to replace him eventually. Dead weight needs to go on this team as well - Nocioni, Speights, Brackins if these guys aren't going to play they need to go somewhere where they can and save us cap space. Jrue-Meeks-Thad-Brand-Kaman with Lou-Turner-Brackins-Speights backing them up and draft pick-FA (Reggie Evans to solidify the big man rotation) and trade Nocioni and Speights or Brackins for the scorer we need. joecooler2u
The sixers should be looking to move into that number 2 spot with AI9 even if they have to give up acouple future picks. They must draft Williams at the number 2/ Then they must let williams turner and jeru play all year long and realize they may only be in the same position next year. Then they must sign a center and boom you have a team with three young guys coming into their prime onee of witch will be a yearly all star (williams) and the other two will be on cusp. This is the only way this team can get good. They must must not be stupid and take another over seas prject. This rarely works. Especialy when if you can get to number 2 you can take one of the ore dominate player we saw in all of college last year in Williams as i think Irvin goes one to cleveland.
Please philly understand the best thing you can do is let the youngsters play and take a lumps next season. Hell maybe one more year in the lottery is a good thing. Our best players are so young it wouldn't hurt. Please move up and take Dwilliams. please. The guy shot 50 % from three. Please. pretty please. OMG please.
Ps Don't take a guy because hes tall that won't be any better than what we got already andyreidisfat

Oden is done due to injuries. The problem with Iggy, is that he's pretty much done due to his knees too. No one will want him for the length and cost of his contract, knowing his knees won't play a full season as a starter ever again. Bynam is a punk; but, might be a good swap for Iggy. I still like Gasol at center a lot! momeara001
Trade Iggy and your first round pick to Minnesota and draft the kid
from Arizona Wiliams he's a beast just watch and see douglasrdd
I guess us SIXER fans can dream about that rumor. I agree with momeara001 that Gasol would look good in a SIXER uniform, but does he have any game left. SIXERS obviously need a big man. GO SIXERS!!! Phillyflashgordon
Why would we want Rudy Gay? He has an even worse contract then Igoudala and if you know anything about efficiency rankings and adjusted +/- a strong case could be made he is an inferior player. Newsflash people Evan Turner is a point forward. We need to trade Igoudala to get more minutes in that role for Turner we dont need another small forward that plays 40 minutes a game coming back in a trade for him. brannigan73
