Holiday out tonight, maybe longer
John Mitchell, Inquirer Staff Writer
INDIANAPOLIS – Jrue Holiday is out for Friday’s game in Indianapolis (11-11) and there is a possibility that the 76ers (12-10) will be without their best player for more than one game.
Holiday was diagnosed with a sprained left foot on Thursday. With Holiday out of the lineup, the Sixers will start Evan Turner at the point along with Jason Richardson, Nick Young, Thad Young and Kwame Brown.
“I’m hoping that it’s not going to be anything long-term,” Sixers coach Doug Collins said at the team’s shootaround this morning. “Jrue is too valuable to us. I’m not going to get him out there and he’s not 100 percent. What usually happens is a guy gets out there and he’s not 100 percent and he usually gets out there and starts running differently. All of a sudden he’s got back spasms, rolls and ankle something like that. We’re going to be very cautious with him.”
The Sixers next game is Sunday against the struggling soap opera that is the Los Angeles Lakers.
This will be a good opportunity for Evan Turner to do what he likes to do most: be on the ball.
“We’re going to take a look at it,” Collins said. “If they get up the floor and try to pressure us we might have to try and get another ball-handler on the floor and try and help. Whether it be with Dorell (Wright) or Maalik (Wayns) they might have to be out there a little more.”
kerryt got his wish. I'll be on the edge of my seat caught-u-sleepin
This is one of the GOOD things that we should dwell on with this team. ET will handle this task just fine... in some ways better, in some not as well... but FINE. We have guys to back up guys at every position except center, which is the real problem. The Sixers can hang and compete some without a true center, but they can not be "relevant" as DC would say. Find the missing piece of the puzzle... let Moultre play between now and then. FredGibsonJr
Caught u sleepin. Never fear my friend. Although I too want Holiday to come back quick, I know ET can do a more than adequate job replacing him. Watch how the play more organized, quicker to get in the offensive sets, more composed, everyway. I haven't been one crying for a change, just allow Turner to facilitate their offense too. I know he has some, but where Holiday takes too much upon himself, Turner won't. I look for 20 to 25 pts, 8 rebs, 10 asst. Or this kid may triple double these clowns. Go Sixers kerryt
Kwame brown @ starting center. i guess he showed up at practice with a pulse so DC will run him out there tonight. isnt moultrie better no matter how young? stayoutofphilly
so did tickets drop from $0.20 to $0.05? mgmt needs to clean house & start over, you clearly need a top 3 draft pick who doesn't suck like ET to succeed. they have no stars. you need a star to win in the nba. you don't develop stars. you draft stars. main liner- I think you are wrong about ET but your comments about drafting stars is correct. Proof..take a look at the all-star rosters every year. There are a few exceptions but the all-star rosters are dominated by first round picks 1-5.
