Holiday added to USA Basketball Select Team Roster

POSTED: Monday, July 2, 2012, 12:42 PM

Sixers point guard Jrue Holiday has been added to the 2012 USA Men’s Select Team that will train July 6-11 against the 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team during training camp in Las Vegas, Nev. Holiday is the 15th player USA Basketball has named to the USA Select squad.

The team will train against the Men's National Team July 6-11.

“In naming Jrue to our Select Team we’ve added an athletic guard who can get to the rim and someone who is also a good 3-point shooter. Both those skills will be invaluable in helping prepare our National Team for this summer,” said Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball chairman.

Holiday, who was the 17th overall pick in the 2009 draft after playing one collegiate season at UCLA, started all 65 games in 2011-12 and averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.6 steals, while shooting 43.2 percent from the field, 38.0 percent from 3-point and 78.3 percent from the foul line.

In the Sixers's 13 playoff games, Holiday averaged 15.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.5 steals, while hitting 40.8 percent of his 3-point tries.

Why no mention that he also has requested that he gets extended to a "max contract"...I found that pretty funny.

Yeah I heard he is seeking a max contract starting at 13 mil a yr

If he is really asking for that much I say let him walk, or trade him to get a big man.

He's good but he ain't that good.

He definitely is not that good. Where was he for 90% of the season?

another weak and lackluster article from John Mitchell way to go!

Halliday is one of our most overrated players. can we get a big for him?

Bears: saw that thing about the max deal. If he takes the next step this season he will get it. Interesting to hear Charles praising him last night on Sports Final as well as Harkless. He thinks Jrue is a star. This is great experience for him and can only make him a better player.

@stayout - you question John's reporting skills but misspell the player's name and lack proper punctuation with your post.

    Thanks for the laugh.

Jrue is not going to get the max, unless he really steps it up next season. He is a good player. One of the few Sixers who can shoot, he is a good passer.too. Hopefully, the desire for the big bucks will spur a big season, and solve one of the team's issues; lack of a "go to" guy. With Turner playing the point and feeding him, it could happen. Who is a better option on the team right now? Let him have a chance. Let Lou walk, play Jrue big minutes and give him 20 shots a night.

i love jrue, but before the playoffs, it seemed that he had regressed. he got better watching Rose & Rondo up close. this is an invaluable experience for jrue.

if Jrue averages 20pts 5 rebs. and 10 assist and 2 steals next season then he deserves a max offer but i think it is just fair to offer him a 40 million for 5 years deal based on his performance last season.
