Cavs nix fountains at arena
The Cleveland Cavaliers have removed all of the public drinking-water fountains from Quicken Loans Arena to stave off the potential spread of swine flu and other communicable diseases.
Team spokesman Tad Carper said that 9-ounce cups of water can be obtained free at concession stands. What he didn't say is that you'll have to stand in line for 20 minutes to get one.
"This was done in an effort to foster the most health-safe environment we felt we could provide for our fans," Carper said in a statement e-mailed to the Associated Press.
Carper said he doesn't know of any other NBA teams that have followed suit. The Cavs also didn't consult the city's health department.
"I haven't been able to find anything in the whole H1N1 world that says water fountains are a concern," Matt Carroll, the city's department of health director, told the AP.
Cashing through the snow
Our friends in Vancouver are having trouble producing enough snow for the Olympic Games, which begin Friday.
"There's still a lot of snow being trucked and flown in to ensure we have enough contingency snow if the warm weather continues," Dave Cobb, the executive vice president of the Vancouver organizing committee, told the Associated Press.
Now far be it from us to give Mayor Nutter advice, but we see a business opportunity here.
Vancouver needs snow. Philly has snow.
Can you say balanced budget?
No soft sell here
You knew this was coming.
The makers of ExtenZe have hired former NFL coach Jimmy Johnson to pitch their product.
He has the perfect name for it. And we don't mean Jimmy.
