Wroten out to show he's Sixers point guard of future

GALLOWAY TWP, N.J. - Tony Wroten has a lot to prove this season.

Since the 76ers signed free agent Kendall Marshall this month, one rarely has heard Wroten's name mentioned in the conversation of who's the team's best point guard.

Scoring points has never been the problem. However, there are questions about his ability to distribute the ball. Wroten believes that's a misconception.

"A lot of people don't understand passing is what I do best," said the fourth-year veteran, who will be sidelined until at least late October. He partially tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in January and missed the remainder of last season.

"Social media you see and all the blogs you see that they are looking for a point guard," Wroten added Monday. "That's fine. That's what my job is to show. Nah, he's right here. That's not being arrogant or cocky. That's just believing in myself."

In 30 games last season, Wroten averaged 16.9 points, 5.2 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals. The 6-foot-6, 205-pounder started 15 games.

Playoff bound?

The Sixers are expected to struggle for the third consecutive season. Just don't tell that to Nerlens Noel, Jerami Grant, Isaiah Canaan and Jahlil Okafor. Those players think the team has realistic chance to make the playoff.

"It's one of our goals," Grant said. "It's definitely possible."

Kazemi's gone

The Sixers released their rights to Arsalan Kazemi so the power forward could try out for the Atlanta Hawks.

Kazemi was a long shot to make the Sixers roster. The Washington Wizard made him the first Iranian NBA draft pick by drafting him 54th overall in 2013. He was traded that night to the Sixers. The franchise assigned him to overseas teams the last two seasons.
