Sixers take a look at Emmanuel Mudiay

With NBA draft a little more than a week away, Sixers work out point guard who played last season in China.

THREE FULL DAYS in and still no word on the health of Joel Embiid's right foot after 76ers issued a statement on Saturday that the healing of his navicular bone wasn't progressing as expected.

But time moves on, and the team did work out guard Emmanuel Mudiay yesterday at its practice facility at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Mudiay, a powerful 6-5, 200-pound point guard, is projected as one of the top two guards in the draft, which will take place a week from tomorrow.

The Sixers own the third pick in the draft, along with five selections in the second round. Ohio State product D'Angelo Russell is the other top guard in the draft.

Mudiay, who is from the Democratic Republic of Congo and played his high school ball in Texas, originally committed to play for former Sixers coach Larry Brown at SMU before deciding to play in China instead. An ankle injury limited his playing time there, as he played in only 12 games, including playoffs. In those games, he averaged 18 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.6 steals.

While the summer leagues that the Sixers will play in have lost some of their luster now that Embiid might not participate, the schedule for their second league in Las Vegas was released yesterday.

After playing three games in the Utah league from July 6-9, the Sixers will travel to Las Vegas and begin play on Saturday, July 11, against the Lakers. They will play three games there before entering double-elimination tournament play.

As for Embiid, according to a source, the team is still gathering information about the CT scan that showed "something different" in the healing process of his right foot. With different medical teams throughout the country that the team consults, the decision of what to do with the 7-footer could take time. And it could be even longer before the team decides to announce that decision.

New-look Sixers

The team will unveil its new jerseys tomorrow at the Wells Fargo Center, with free admission for all fans. The event starts at 7 p.m.

Former players expected to be on hand include Billy Cunningham, Darryl Dawkins, Moses Malone, Bobby Jones and Allen Iverson.
