John Wall has five non-displaced fractures in his left wrist and hand, and the all-star guard's playing status has not been determined.

John Wall has five non-displaced fractures in his left wrist and hand, and the all-star guard's playing status has not been determined.

Wall was hurt in Game 1 of Washington's Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Atlanta Hawks. Initial X-rays were negative, but "multiple examinations" on Wednesday revealed the injuries, the Wizards announced Thursday.

Washington will host Atlanta for Game 3 Saturday. The top-seeded Hawks won Game 2 to even the series at 1-1.

"Obviously not the news you want to hear," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said after the team's practice on Thursday. "With the swelling, we knew maybe there was not good news there. We're still consulting with doctors."

Butler most improved

Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls was named the NBA's most improved player after making his first all-star team and averaging a career high in scoring.

The 25-year-old Butler received 92 of 129 first-place votes and 535 total points from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors (11 first-place votes, 200 points) was second and Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz (12 first-place votes, 189 points) finished third.

Twins plead not guilty

Phoenix Suns players Marcus and Markieff Morris have pleaded not guilty to two counts of felony aggravated assault.

The twins from Philadelphia played at Prep Charter and Apex Academy in Pennsauken. They are accused of helping three others beat a man outside a Phoenix recreation center Jan. 24. The brothers entered their pleas Thursday morning in Maricopa County Superior Court.

According to a Phoenix police report, 36-year-old Erik Hood said five people, including the Morris brothers, repeatedly punched and kicked him.

Injured Paul practices

Chris Paul worked out on the court, a positive sign in his struggle to overcome a strained left hamstring, though it's not known whether he can play for the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 3 against the Houston Rockets.

Coach Doc Rivers said on a conference that "everything is going well" with the all-star guard, but his status is unknown going into Friday night, when the series resumes at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The teams are tied 1-1 after a split in Houston.

Paul sat out the first two games of the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals. He has sat on the bench and has been a coach-cheerleader for his teammates.

Rockets' Brewer fined

The NBA fined Houston Rockets swingman Corey Brewer $5,000 for flopping.

Brewer was penalized for tumbling backward well beyond the baseline and crashing into the basket stanchion after stepping in front of Clippers guard Lester Hudson with 1 minute, 3 seconds remaining in the first quarter of Houston's 115-109 victory Wednesday.
