The 76ers shooting guard missed the home game Monday against the Los Angeles Lakers with swelling and soreness in his left knee.

Richardson, 34, said he expects to return in time for the game Wednesday against the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center. However, coach Brett Brown said he could miss two games.

Richardson returned to the court Feb. 20 for the first time in more than two years after suffering a cartilage tear the size of a quarter in the right side of his kneecap in January 2013. He had two knee surgeries and suffered a stress fracture in his right foot that prolonged his time away.

The 14th-year veteran said he experienced some soreness and swelling while participating in a morning shootaround at Santa Monica High School's practice court in California on March 22. The Sixers faced the Lakers that night at the Staples Center.

"It was cement," Richardson said of the court. "My knee didn't respond well to that. I had some pain since then. I kind of fought through it in the Lakers game. I played in the Denver game [on March 25] and it kind of flared up.

"So it's just kind of cautious and take a couple of days off."

Richardson is averaging 8.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 15 games (14 starts).

"I really shouldn't have played in Denver," said Richardson, who lives there in the offseason. "But that was home, getting back home. I wanted to play with my teammates, getting back home.

"[But] that's how it's going to happen for the rest of my career. [The knee is] going to have good days and bad days. You have to take a couple of days off and get right back to it."
