Sixers Notes: Ailing Kyle Lowry sits out game with Sixers

Kyle Lowry loves playing basketball and especially in his hometown of Philadelphia, but the Toronto Raptors point guard, a product of Cardinal Dougherty and Villanova, was on board with sitting out Monday against the 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Kyle Lowry loves playing basketball and especially in his hometown of Philadelphia, but the Toronto Raptors point guard, a product of Cardinal Dougherty and Villanova, was on board with sitting out Monday against the 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Raptors coach Dwane Casey said Lowry had various things he was dealing with. "Nothing major, multiple nicks, bumps, bruises and soreness," Casey said.

"I know what is best for me and I know the coaches and organization know what is best for me," said Lowry, who sat out his second straight game. "I want to play, but at the same time I understand the bigger picture for us."

Lowry, who earned his first all-star selection this season, is averaging 18.0 points per game.

Sixers waive McGee

The Sixers waived center JaVale McGee before midnight, making him eligible to join a team's postseason roster. McGee was acquired along with Oklahoma City's protected 2015 first-round pick from Denver at the trade deadline on Feb. 19.

McGee was signed for $12 million next year and that money will go on the Sixers' salary cap.

Sixers coach Brett Brown called the move "the right thing to do to give him the opportunity to play with a playoff team."

Covington out

Sixers forward Robert Covington suffered a right elbow bruise Sunday in a 94-74 loss at Indiana. He sat out Monday.
