Sixers send Shved to Rockets for second-round pick

76ers general manager Sam Hinkie is a trading machine. On Friday he sent Alexey Shved to the Houston Rockets in exchange for the Rockets' 2015 second-round pick and Ronny Turiaf from the Minnesota Timberwolves and the rights to Spanish League player Sergei Lishouk. The Sixers will waive Turiaf. Lishouk, 32, will never make their roster. The team is expected to trade his rights at some point.

The franchise now has four second-round picks in the forthcoming draft.

This transaction comes a week after the Sixers acquired Andrei Kirilenko, Jorge Gutierrez, and a 2020 second-round pick from the Brooklyn Nets for Brandon Davies.

The Sixers will free up a roster spot by waiving Turiaf, who has an expiring contract. The source said the team was considering re-signing power forward Malcolm Thomas. Thomas was waived Nov. 10 to free up a roster spot while he had knee surgery.

Turiaf, who appeared in two games this season, had arthroscopic surgery on his right hip Tuesday that will sideline him the rest of the season. So he would not have much use for the Sixers.

Lishouk plays for Valencia of the Spanish League. The Rockets held the NBA rights to the post player from Ukraine.

Shved averaged 9.9 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 rebounds in 17 appearances as the Sixers' third-string point guard. He wasn't expected to see much playing time now that Michael Carter-Williams and Tony Wroten are both healthy.
